If I recall it correctly, he was the first person to be filmed in a flying airplane.For those curious, this thing appears to be a protoform of the first production biplanes. It was designed by Brazilian Alberto Santos-Dumont, and was the first publicly demonstrated flight of an airplane outside of the US.
