This year in aviation history, the world's first purpose-built aircraft carrier (the Royal Navy's HMS Hermes) enters service. Now it's important to note that previous carriers existed by now thanks to WWI. But all of them were, in some form or another, a conversion of an existing in-service ship. This includes the Imperial Japanese Army's Amagi, which is destroyed by an earthquake mid-conversion, also within this year.

The fossa in Madagascar were just clinically insane, so they weren't really tough in that instance, either lol

Well, moving on: This year in aviation history, two of the four Douglas World Cruisers operated by the US Army Air Service return to Seattle, WA after the first successful aerial circumnavigation of the world. Travelling westbound, the flight took 371 flight hours over 175 days. The four aircraft were named after American cities, being Seattle, Chicago, Boston, and New Orleans. Seattle crashed about a month and a half in due to fog near Port Moller, Alaska, and Boston was forced to ditch over the Faroe Islands due to an oil pump failure, and were rescued by the USS Richmond. All crew of the Seattle and Boston survived, and the crews of Chicago and New Orleans were greeted by a welcoming crowd and a congratulatory telegram from president Coolidge upon return to their point of departure.
