A creature of the night
This year in birb history, the Australian Army goes to war ... with emus.
After WW1, Australian soldiers returned home from war to live a peaceful life as farmers. They conquered the harsh land and planted huge crops of wheat. However, in 1932 a sudden boom in the emu population lead to roving bands of flightless birbs prowled the country side. Ten's of thousands of emus descended on the helpless farmers and massive swaths of crops were eaten. The Australian government had no choice but to act. On November 2, 1932 war was declared.
They enlisted Major Meredith and his men to deal with the problem and they soon located a band of about 1,000 birbs. They opened fire with their machine guns and unleashed the full furry of the Australian Army ... and only managed to hit about a dozen emus.
Major Meredith was quoted saying: "If we had a military division with the bullet-carrying capacity of these birds it would face any army in the world ... They can face machine guns with the invulnerability of tanks."
For over a year the two forces fought, but in the end, the birbs were too much. The human army with all their guns were forced to withdraw.
Let that be a lesson to you, "Respect the Birb"
