Well, yeah. Also: This year in aviation history, the Boeing 747 makes its first test flights. It would enter service the following year with now-defunct Pan-Am, with a public christening from First Lady Pat Nixon. The 747 is the most visibly recognizable aircraft thanks in no small part to the partial double decker design, and becomes the symbol the modern jet age. Compared to the 737 selling over 10,000 units during its production cycle, the 747 would sell a measly 1,544, with 890 now retired or lost, including one that is now a hostel at Arlanda Airport in Sweden.

Hey, if you want to scar your tastebuds, then that's your prerogative XD

Not my circus, not my monkeys! Have fun vomiting up that vile "food" later! *munches on some celery with peanut butter and raisins and popcorns into bed*
Good night, you lovely people!
...

This is all good and well, but did you also know that planes go "whooooosh" but really, REALLY loudly?

The Velvet Underground release their 3rd album: The Velvet Underground

last cut from that album, Afterhours

(music really starts to pick up around now, in terms of the roots of indie/punk)

And I forgot to tell you. There was something really dark behind the 1968 Summer Olympics. A genocide just ten days before the beginning of the games performed by the government at the time against protestors dissatisfied with the government's actions. Many students and innocent people died that day in what we now known as the Tlatelolco Massacre.

May they rest in peace.

Aww yiss.

Celebratory fact: This year in aviation history, the McDonnell-Douglas DC-10 trijet flies for the first time. Three months later, the Lockheed L-1011, famous for being the aeronautical engineering equivalent of "copy my homework but change the answers so we don't get caught" flies for the first time as well. The DC-10 would go on to earn a reputation as unsafe after multiple incidents and accidents, including two cargo door blowouts (one of which is the third worst aviation accident in history), and an engine falling off (which to be fair, was American Airlines' shitty maintenance practices. Despite the reputation, the DC-10 is still in use today, mostly in cargo with UPS and FedEx being the largest operators of the type.

Despite its better safety image, the Lockheed L-1011 has almost been completely retired from service. The last flying Lockheed L-1011 is an experimental rocket carrier called the Orbital ATK Stargazer. The aircraft was owned by Northrop-Grumman, and now Orbital ATK, and launches Pegasus rockets into low earth orbit, which it carries up under its belly.

And now, bedtime.

It's 1970. The peak of the Hippie movement, and the music is very happy and psychedelic.

But one band has other plans. At Friday the 13th, 1970 they release an album, that changes everything. The music is dark, the music is strong, the music makes Christians hide in fear.
The media and politics did not remain silent about their worries, but it was too late already. They couldn't stop it anymore, as this beast was released on hunanity. From now on, every sabbath is a Black Sabbath.

At this Friday, the 13th 1970, HEAVY METAL WAS BORN!!!
