Absolutely no context here apart from by now, thanks to the infamous 1966 defence white paper, most of the sea Vixen fleet had been placed into early retirement.
The paper was responsible for a lot of cancelled defence projects (a new carrier, the purchase of the F-111, the scrapping of the TSR-2) including scrapping most of the existing carrier fleet. Apparently we didn't need aircraft carriers or manned aircraft anymore, missiles could do the job just fine (thanks labour ).

1971 Mini facts!
The Cooper model was discontinued in the UK and wouldn't return until the '90s. The only sporty model you could get was the 1275GT which was based on the Clubman square-nosed redesign, as opposed to Issigonis' original "round-nose" design.
Also, hydrolastic suspension was discontinued in June of this year meaning that all future Mini models would be running the usual rubber cone suspension.
