Ok 1972!
And we’re back with the Ark Royal.
In the January of this year Guatemalan leaders planned to invade British Honduras (Now Belize). The assumption was he Britain was too over-stretched to defend the territory and would offer nothing in the form of resistance apart from maybe a protest to the UN. Upon learning of the plan Whitehall looked at what they could do to buy time until a full defence force could be scrambled to the area, the only asset available was the (now ageing) Ark Royal. Her Captain was somewhat startled to get an admiralty signal ‘Proceed to British Honduras with all dispatch!’ followed by instructions that there needed to be a ‘Show of strength’ to at least make the Guatemalan’s pause or better yet cancel their plans.
The plan hatched by Captain Roberts was to put a pair of Blackburn Buccaneers over BH for about ten minuets by launching the aircraft with extra fuel and arranging for two more Buccaneers to accompany them in a tanker role. The mission was a success and holds the record for the longest carrier based mission in Royal navy history.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAA -Sukhoi, 2020
*Gets ready for class*

This year in aviation history, 101 people are killed when all three crew of an Eastern Airlines L-1011 are distracted by a burned out lightbulb. The crew is so focused on a missing landing gear indicator on approach, that all three forget to fly the plane, hitting the Everglades as they did a go-around. There's a mantra that's hammered into student pilots early on, being "aviate, navigate, communicate." If you fail to do the first step, you won't have a chance to get to the next steps. There were two important things to stem from this accident:

1) The importance of crew resource management, i.e., not having all hands on deck for a gear out indicator.
2) 'Hot swappable' lightbulbs for the landing gear, which can be pulled straight out without unscrewing and placed in another gear indicator socket to test for a burnt bulb.

75 people made it out alive.

Hm!
Before 1972 slips by; one of my favorite albums, 'Can't Buy a Thrill' by Steely Dan is released.

alright cool now back to liking posts

E: I actually want and don't want the pages to reach the future: On one hand there's a lot of history/aviation/maritime/music facts at once so it's hard to take them all in; on the other hand I actually like the facts and there will probably be no free excuses for sharing gratuitous facts about a specific year once we're in the future.

1973:

Iggy & The Stooges release Raw Power; The New York Dolls release their first album which includes Lonely Planet Boy & Personality Crisis; Lou Reed releases Berlin.

...getting more interesting! (1975 is really the big year for indie/punk, which then grows exponentially)

The 70s were a great decade for music in general, in my opinion :)
Probably my favourite!

Same here as far as rock/indie/punk goes...along with the 80s!

And just a few years now till The Ramones...The Clash...The Buzzcocks...things really start to look up in terms of that fast, clean sound.

Also in 1973, AC/DC is being founded in Sidney. Their first singer: Dave Evans. He will be kicked out of the band before their first album and is replaced with Bon Scott.
They did release a single though with Evans (a rare collectors item today) and a video was made:
