Predators and Prey

Si, si.

This year in aviation history, a 777 (G-YMMM) operating as British Airways 38 loses power on final approach into Heathrow and hits the ground just short of the runway. All 152 survive, and the plane is written off. It's the first hull loss of a 777, and to highlight exactly how good the 777's safety record is, it's had seven hull losses in its entire operation history since 1995, only three of which have resulted directly in any fatalities. I counted at least 8 hull losses for the DC-10 within its first 10 years of service.

Anyway, the cause of BA38's crash is a fuel-oil heat exchanger in each engine that froze over due to a design flaw, choking fuel flow to the engines if the pilots commanded power after extended periods of idling or low throttle. The units were redesigned.

That's incredible! No fatalities with 152 passengers?! At least they used the crashe to make some major improvements.

That picture looks like how my RC planes looked after I flew them when I was little lol. Quads are much more user-friendly, or maybe I just became a better RC pilot in my old age!

Morning all. :)

(Too early, or to little sleep.)
*Goes to work*
There you are! Sorry, I had to borrow your hose without asking you, but I figured you wouldn't care if it was to "cool off" the predators :D

Also, TRY TO GET SOME SLEEP (obviously not right now if you need to get to work)! I'll get @Skittles to command you to do so! If you don't wanna listen to me, at least listen to Queenie!

Have a good time at work though!

To be fair, every crash improves something. We wouldn't have any of the regulations or equipment we have now if we never learned from the beginning.

E: Also this year in aviation, the final traces of Pan-Am Airlines disappear when regional carrier Boston-Maine Airways ceases operation. They had been operating branded as Pan-Am Clipper Connection, continuing after Pan-Am Airlines had gone defunct in 2004. Pan-Am group continues to exist (much to my surprise), but no longer offers scheduled air service.

I'm implore you to command @TR273 to try and fit more sleep into his schedule :D

Would it be illegal to bribe the crown with acorns..?

I can advise him as a friend.. But ultimately it is his decision.

Bribe the queen?! Le GASP!! Just.. stick them behind my throne..

2008...huh. Hard to recall what happened. I was living a sorta life that I call, "modified Mick Jagger/Keith Richards with less money but a nice place to entertain" then...lots of wild nights. I do recall, on a Rock and Roll note, going to see the band Matt and Kim in a basement, before they became known, and how they ended up staying at our place in Bolton Hill, Baltimore, because the opening band was friends with our housemate: I recall taking a Klonopin, and having a good ammount to drink, and feeling very, very happy & relaxed when they played, thinking: I bet they will get a lot more famous. Though much of the night is foggy, I remember both bands being rather smelly. There was one guy that I stayed up late in the opening band (parts & Labor, I think they were called) that I talked to, who didn't drink or do drugs, who couldn't sleep; it seemed rather ironic, to gab all night. One day, I'll have to try and list out the various bands I saw, and (roughly) when. :p

But it reminds me of the kind of push-your-luck recklessness that's welled up in my life at various points, and had certainly reached a peak in those years.

I believe at this period my life consisted of work and WoW. Didn't have much to look forward to at the time.. Was a pretty dark period.

That suits just fine, thanks!

Well, 2009 now, and we have two prolific water landings this year. This year in aviation history, Air France 447 disappears over the South Atlantic. The plane stalls after the pilots become confused by conflicting readings, caused by an iced-over pitot-static pressure vane. Despite knowing roughly where the plane is, it takes two years to find the wreckage.

On the flip side, we have US Airways 1549, which strikes a flock of the biggest assholes known to man. The geese knock out both engines, forcing the plane to ditch in the Hudson River. Thanks to crashing in a super busy waterway, all 155 passengers and crew are rescued within minutes by local ferries and other boats.

Yes that's fine. :D

I had to borrow your hose too @TR273, to hose away the annoying little furry potato.
Not a problem, please deliver the hire cost of £27,000,000.34 to the hollow tree on the village green at midnight.
