Predators and Prey

A Minty cheetah

~C H E E~
2009 was my second year of car ownership (I passed my test in '05 but couldn't afford to buy a car), and also the 50th anniversary of the Mini. There was an official birthday celebration over one of the weekends near the original launch date which was held at the original factory site at Longbridge. I took my Mini "back home" to join the celebrations and there were Minis and owners from all over the world - even as far as Australia!!!

DRGN Juno

AAAAAAAAAAAAAA -Sukhoi, 2020
Gonna go to bed, so here's a 2010-2011:

2010 in aviation history:
-A certain devilishly handsome derg gets his private pilot's licence, and is doomed to never stop telling people about it.
-Qantas 32 suffers an engine failure en route from Singapore to Heathrow, causing control issues and a fuel leak, much to the annoyance of the flight crew. The plane lands at Singapore without further incident.
-Cathay Pacific 780 is left with one engine stuck on full throttle and one engine stuck on idle after taking on contaminated fuel in Jakarta. The extra speed forces the plane's approach to Hong Kong to be done at 230 knots, which is 95 knots above normal landing speed. Casualties are limited to five of the eight main gear tires, and the A330 (reg'd B-HLL) is repaired and returned to service.

2011 in aviation history:
-LOT Polish Airlines 16 suffers both hydraulic and electrical failures in the landing gear, forcing a belly landing. The 767 (reg'd SP-LPC) becomes the only heavy airliner to make a successful gear up landing, and is subsequently written off.
-An EgyptAir 777 (reg'd SU-GBP and named Nefertiti) catches fire in the cockpit while parked on the ground, becoming the second 777 to be written off.
-Space shuttles Discovery, Endeavour, and Atlantis are retired from service, in that order. Endeavour is scheduled to be the final flight, but the program is given yet another last-minute extension for exactly one mission, and ends with Atlantis flying STS-135, landing July 22.

We have tornado watches for the next three hours or so. Heavy storms are rolling in and are just across the river. I can't sleep right now.

I'm expecting the power to go out as well. We're having wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour. My house is surrounded by mature oak trees.

Going to check the radar. I hear a roaring sound outside, and it isn't a Furry.

Power went out for about 20 seconds and came back on. Eep! Heavy, heavy rains and maybe a little hail going on.

I have to shut down for a couple of hours to let this storm pass. If you want to check the weather channel, I'm in Memphis. We have six separate warnings going on right now, from tornado watch, to severe thunderstorm, to river flood warnings. It's a bad night for the ol' Sabertooth.

I've never heard of a tornado where you live. Have you ever had one?
Not to my knowledge. It's pretty windy today, I think the forecast is gusts of up to 80mph but nothing like you're experiencing.
*Still hoping everything is going ok over there.*

There was a very localised tornado where I lived in the UK. It took out a gardening center and lobbed sheds all over the main road nearby. But nothing as extreme as America. However we do get water spouts in the channel often.
