Cider for breakfast? Hot??? What am I even reading?

You've never tried it before? I love to put some cinnamon in mine and a bit of sugar to put a pep in my step. It's healthier than coffee too :D

Just think of it as... sweeter, tangier tea!

But alcohol for breakfast?

"Cider (/ˈsaɪdər/SY-dər) is an alcoholic beverage made from the fermented juice of apples."

This is why I get confused. Calling it apple juice makes much more sense to me! :D I do have regular filtered or pressed apple juice for breakfast sometimes, just never tried it hot.

*Observes the predators are now all in the sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-basement. Cuts the lift cables, welds the air vent grills on, fills the stairwells and lift shafts with tofu.
:p
*Fixes the elevator and vent grills, gets rid of all the tofu and frees the predators*

Ah, alrighty. I always thought of it as the non-alcoholic beverage lol. I either drink it cold (there's an apple farm near my house that sells the stuff) and I make hot apple cider out of a Keurig :D

The little capsules they make for hot apple cider taste amazing!

I just found out our discrepancy: The alcoholic beverage is called "Cider" here in the USA and Canada, while the regular, non-alcoholic beverage is called "Apple cider"

Not all apple cider drinks are alcoholic, silly! I'm not even old enough to drink where I live lol. Alcohol for breakfast does sound like a terrible idea, though (unless you're @Thrashy, that is)
*wakes up, pours whiskey in his coffee*
You called me? :p

Also, with 18 you're not old enough to drink? In Switzerland you can legally buy beer with 16 and hard alcohol with 18 xD

Good morning!

But yeah, you can't drink anything alcoholic in the US until you're 21. I'm not much of an alcohol drinker anyway (I try some during family gatherings and stuff like that, it's just too stingy for me lol). It's kinda weird how you unlock voting privileges before you can drink. I think you can even smoke at 18, but I'm not entirely sure. Weird stuff :/

Oh my! More differences!!! What's the difference between beer and "hard alcohol"? Here it's 18 to buy alcohol. Period.

I don't know why it is like that in the US. In Mexico the legal age is 18.

The 16 rule is for "brewed" stuff, like beer, some wines and mead.
The 18 rule is for distilled stuff, like liquor or schnapps.

Since we are a confederation, it gets even more complicated ^^
In some cantons, alcohol is not allowed to be sold to people under 18. This means, 16 and 17 year old teens, that live in such a canton, often travel to another canton, where they can buy beer with 16 xD

That's so strange! I'll stick with the "No 18? No buy!" rule.

I'm sure there's a good reason behind it, but I don't really care to look it up, honestly lol.

We also can't work at places that sell alcohol if we're under 21 (so I really hope that @Thrashy's PvP bar is in Switzerland XD)

That does sound complicated :(. I guess those 16 year olds gotta get what they gotta get where they can get it when it comes to partying :D

To be honest, I would lie if I'd say that when I was drunk for the first time, I was over 16 (or 18) ^^
This wasn't probably that bad, as I think I've had my worst experiences underage and therefore stopped binge drinking already before I was even allowed to xD

Not that hard to remember, as any store, bar, restaurant etc that sell alcohol are forced by law, to have good visible signs that say which drinks you can buy on which age. I think you get a fine if you don't have those signs xD

If I'm not wrong, at least one person at a bar that sells alcohol has to be 18, not depending on which alcoholic beverages they sell.

The brewery and it's bar are located in Skunk Hollow of course :p
In the Kingdom of Queen @Skittles , there are of course age laws, but since Skunk Hollow stays independent (and anarchistic), there are no age laws here :p
But since I don't wanna harm anybody, Elias, our bouncer (friend of @Ravofox ), is instructed to not let in anybody that seems too young to drink. :)

I've been of legal drinking age for nearly 15 years and have yet to get drunk!

Speaking of that 16 y.o. rule in switzerland, I remember going to a bar with a few mates and being surrounded by tiens drinking beer. We were like older than everyone there by at least 4 years. Ngl that was pretty weird.

You haven't missed anything to be honest ^^

I personally don't drink that much too IRL.
The jokes I make of exclusively drinking alcohol comes from a Metalhead stereotype. I've made these jokes in other communities too, even before I've joined here ^^
Of course, I get tipsy sometimes if we have good mead or so, but I know my limits :)

Same here. I can drink a lot, but I never found the appeal of being flat out wasted.

Apple cider differs from apple juice in that apple cider is unfiltered raw juice. Apples are ground up to the consistancy of apple sauce then pressed. Apple juice is filtered and pasteurized. Now HARD cider is fermented.

If it's juice from an apple, filtered or not, we just call it apple juice! Cider is used purely for alcoholic beverages with a fermented apple base (there's a godawful trend of "fruit ciders" going on which take a regular cider and they flavour it with various fruit. Usually pumped full of additional sugar too *retches*)

Huh....I've certainly covered the bases on drinking, in the past, here: there is definitely a certain thrill to getting wasted, a sort of surreal, almost manic quality of utter freedom, that also has an edge to it: it really tends to heighten emotions...but it can also take quite the toll. I often think of when the detective writer Raymond Chandler (The Big Sleep, The Lady in the Lake, &c) gave up drinking: "Life has lost its technicolor", he remarked.

And there's also that way in which life felt like a John Cassavetes film; warm, empathetic, yet also rough around the edges and direct...there's a very nostalgic appeal.

All in all, I have no huge regrets, though alcohol does tend to be painted in a much more benign light than other vices in the US, which, in retrospect is kinda baffling.

Sill, I wouldn't complain if I had a few bottles of nice Bordeaux.
