I didn't boff... I wasn't even here!

On a side note... I was almost in a really bad accident on the interstate tonight. A car off my left quarter panel lost control and fishtailed right towards the driver side door. I heard their tires screeching and looked out my window to see the nose of their car swinging right towards me. I was able to jerk the wheel right, then left to fishtail away from the car (now about six inches from my door panel) with everyone going about 60mph (almost 100kph). I was going straight down the highway at about a 30degree angle to the left, with the rear of my car taking up part of the lane to my right. My tires were squealing and smoking a good bit. I was then able to steer back into the skid and straighten out. My friend, Draconis, thought they had hit us. We pulled over to check for damage, but luckily we weren't touched. The car that lost control ended up hitting a median barrier, but no one was hurt. Their car was leaking fluids though. I think a certain part of my anatomy has pinched a hole in the upholstery though. I did manage to really twist my back with the "cat-like" reflexive driving I had to do. I don't even remember thinking about it as I was doing it, since it all happened so fast. I'm just glad I am back here among my friends once again.
Scary!

I glad to hear you and everyone else are alright.

*Gives big hug and a calming cup of tea.*

My back hurts. I can't sleep. I've been working on stuff all night. I'll not post about this again. I don't want to sound like an attention hog.
It's fine.
I think anyone who drives has their share of horror stories.
I was almost involved in what could have been a very nasty fatal accident about 8 years ago, I still have flashbacks.

I had one of those about that long ago. I was an attending guest of honor at a gaming convention in town. It was/is a fairly large convention with about 2000 attendees. I was friends with the guy who ran the con and found out he was going to wear a Lego costume. It was a full body costume and really funny with the round head and "hook" hands. I told him that if he was going to wear that, I was going to wear my fursuit. He told me to go for it, so I went to my shop across town to pick it up. I had about an hour for a 30 minute round trip. On the way back, traffic slowed to a crawl and then stopped on the interstate. I had four cars stopped behind me. I heard a quick screech of breaks and a "whump" sound. I look in my rear view door mirror and I see a black SUV coming my direction but sideways and rolling over the tops of the cars behind me. I'm boxed in with no hope of getting out of the way. The guy in front of me was a motorcyclist and he must have panicked when he saw what was coming. He quickly shot between the cars ahead of him and was gone. This gave me about ten more feet of space to pull up, which I rapidly did. The SUV landed on its side IMMEDIATELY behind my car and was hissing violently. I called 911 emergency and tell them what had happened. They asked me for the color of the vehicle in the accident. I told them I think it's black but the bottom of the vehicle is facing me. I told them that it would be pretty obvious what vehicle it was as it would be the one laying on its side in the middle of the highway. Anyway, I went back to the gaming con and had to do a panel on printing, which I completely trainwrecked because of my nerves being jangled from the accident. I did get to fursuit, though, and had at least a hundred and fifty photo ops from the attendees, most of whom had never seen a fursuit. Unfortunately, I found out later that the driver of the SUV had been texting and was killed in the accident.

Since I have apparently slipped into "Keefur story" mode, I'll finish the rest of the story...

I had always heard that fursuiters and gamers didn't mix. However, I fursuited for several hours without incident. I stepped outside to a garden area to get some fresh air. I was still in my fursuit. It was in March, so the weather was pleasantly cool. There were about twenty people out there. Some were smoking, and most were talking in groups. There were two guys in their mid-30s sitting on a bench looking at me. One of them said to the other, in a voice obviously elevated to make sure I could hear him, "You can't get away from these f***ing Furries!" This caught the attention of most of the people in the garden, who were now looking in my direction. I replied, with a voice projected loud enough so that everyone could hear, "Hey guys! You know I wear this fursuit to help out with animal charities. I am a mascot for a cat rescue organization, and I sometimes visit children with terminal illnesses. Have you guys ever done anything like that?"
They replied with a sullen, "No."
I then loudly quipped, "That's probably because you were too busy sitting on your fat asses playing games all day." And with that I turned on my heel the made my way back into the convention bolstered by the applause of the group who heard my speech. I never saw these guys at the con again.

Ouch!
Mine was on a road that I've driven many times before. I was doing about 50mph (on a 60mph road), I came round a corner, clear road in front of me, then suddenly a kid shot out of a side road on a push bike about 15ft from the front of my car and then he stopped (obviously in shock). I don't really remember the next few seconds, just feeling more g-force than normal and a screeching noise. When my brain started working again I was broadside on into a hedge and there was no sign of the kid. I was pretty badly shaken up but not hurt and the car was fine apart from a few scratches. But looking back at the marks on the road I must have missed the kid by inches.

Good thing nobody got hurt there...looks like the kid got away safely.

I think now's a good time to dispense some facts.

In the 1960's the US Navy lost two nuclear submarines somewhere in the north Atlantic. Everything was swept under the rug until 20 years later when someone figured leaving a pair of subs loaded with a full stock of warheads at the bottom of the ocean was kind of a bad idea. So they set out to find it. The problem was that they didn't wont the Soviets to know what they were doing and tip them off that there was a bunch of nukes out there for anyone to grab. They needed a cover story. So they used the Titanic.

Enter Robert Ballard, an oceanographer who hoped to discover the famous wreck, but couldn't get funding for his underwater exploration vehicle. The subs just happened to go down in the same general area where the Titanic was last seen above water. So the Navy approached Ballard with a proposal to fund his expedition, but only as a cover while they searched for their missing subs. Ballard ended up agreeing, knowing this was probably his only chance to find the final resting place of Leonardo DiCaprio.

Ballard was sidelined by the Navy for nearly the whole trip, not allowed to use any of the equipment for his search. He had to beg the Navy to let him go out and they finally, reluctantly agreed. They said he could have any leftover time if the mission wrapped up early, giving him just 12 days. Here comes the plot twist, Robert Ballard took out his equipment and actually found the Titanic.

To the Navy's horror Robert Ballard became an instant celebrity and the whole world suddenly turned their attention to the expedition. The US government scrambled to keep everything about the subs a secret. They successfully kept it hidden for 32 years until documents were released in 2017.

Hey James Cameron, make that into a movie!
