The forums are almost unusable for me at the moment. Pages are taking in excess of a minute to load. Then I have to deal with the interfaces bugging out on me...

Weirdly it's working fine for me (right that's just asking for connection problems tomorrow). Maybe it's the storm?

Nice! I have an '82 GL1100 I'm restoring. Or that's what I like to tell myself while the stripped frame sits neglected in my living room.

It's a lot of work to restore, if I had the time I'd probably do the same. Those were great bikes (my dad awhile back had an 86 GL1200) I LOVED being a passenger on one. Almost felt like a car :p

I'm going to take more road trips as time goes on, my 2011 Boulevard 800 just won't cut it for big trips ;) (still keeping it for driving around nearby)

It was a lot more work when I wanted to keep it stock. Then after a couple of years of tracking down discontinued miscellaneous bits, I decided "screw it" and stripped off all of the options, sold the seized bottom half of the old engine, and started hunting down a diesel engine from a Smart car. Which is a bit of a shame, I'm pretty sure most cars weren't even this well equipped in the 80s. Or today, for that matter.

I spoke too soon. It's just taken ages to pop open that notification and be able to actually read it. Pages are loading okay, but the site UI is lagging like crazy!!!

It's a shame, but still cool nonetheless!

Were you planning on keeping the rest of it stock besides the drivetrain?

You don't need to worry.

*Feels stomach gurgles*

Okay, maybe you want to get away from me while I let this pass.

YIKES!!! Perhaps it couldn't handle the Minty?:D

...or, maybe it's one of @Simo's zoo traps:eek:

Initially, yeah. But then I dug into the fairing and found out most of the wiring was chewed out by mice. And since I don't have much use for an AM/FM/Cassette/CB setup anyway, I tore it out and sold what I could. I couldn't test the air suspension, and a rebuild kit was stupid expensive, so that went too. I continued that until I had nothing left but the bare frame and fork. Then I decided that since I have a rust free, straight frame with a clean VIN, I could do whatever I wanted with it.

Plan A right now is to build the frame back up. I'm making a complete custom wiring harness with accessory provisions (phone charger, hand warmers, and integrated road cams, that kind of stuff), GSX-R forks, new brakes, and conventional rear suspension. I want to keep the outside looking generally like a naked Goldwing, but also modernize whatever I can.
