This is some kind of "grammar joke"
You can theoretically replace the genitive with dative, by saying it differently.

The sentence means:
The Dative is the death of the Genitive.

This is grammatically correct, but not "nice".

The correct-correct version would be:
Der Dativ ist des Genitivs Tod
(The Dative is the Genitives' death)

In Swiss German, there is no Genitive at all. We always use the Dative Version.

I’m afraid some of the more advanced terms in language were missed out of my education (having been classified as ‘a bit thick’ and dumped in the bottom class with a bunch of unteachable rejects.)
