That's a myth. Giant clams don't close completely and you would purposefully have to try to get caught in one because they close so slowly. I sold a 100 pound shell that was 31 1/2 inches wide for $1,250.00 not too long ago.

Yeah? But it brings in the tourists!

True dat!

It's pretty close to Mackinaw Island, a noted tourist trap, and place where native residents only go once-on a high school field trip. The Grand Hotel is the main highlight, I'd say...but there's other remote, scenic islands in the Great Lakes, that are more interesting to explore, all in all. Unless you like expensive fudge...and crowds. : P

That fudge is sooooo goooood though. My dad brought me some back once when he was up that way. Isn't that the island where they don't allow cars? Don't forget about the Potaski and pudding stones. I'll trade you something for them.

Yep, no cars there! There's more islands with no cars, too: the Manitou Islands in Lake Michigan, which have huge striking sand dunes, as well as Ile Royal, in Lake Superior. I'm not sure what it is with fudge here, but we also have it here, in Traverse City, as well as Charlevoix and Petoskey. : )

Sometimes the stones even get carved into 'lil animals, though, I don't think they carve very easily:
