Romero and Juliet was permanently soured for me by having to study it for three years for my high school English exam. It wasn't even like we disassembled the good parts, as I recall we in depth looked at the relationship between Juliet and her nurse, Mercurio's role in the dynamic of the story, and something else, I forget. And then there were the repeated rewatches of the Leonardo DiCaprio film, a story that didn't interest me with an actor I couldn't stand (at the time).
Unsurprisingly I failed the course, and did a resit where we studied 'A Midsummers Night Dream.' Less weird politics and awkward teen romance and more funky acid trip!
