Also, for 1957, it feels way ahead of its time, for the sort of thing it's parodying. I saw it a few days ago on TV, and had almost forgotten. Lots of little gems, in the Warner Bros. stable.

I'd agree! I think you can find this one on Daily Motion, even. Really canny parody of AA. The character who acts as Sylvester's 'sponsor' has a relapse at the end...and the various scenes of him going through bird withdrawal and bird cravings are pretty hilarious, not to mention some of the 'interventions' : P
