Predators and Prey

I was wondering about AnthrOhio because Draconis, aka Calamity Cougar, and I will be vending there selling airbrush tees with Nash the Red Panda.

Hopefully things will clear up by the time the con rolls around; there's also a fur con here in Michigan, MotorCity Fur Con, April 3-5, that might be impacted. (I didn't plan to go this year, due to just having moved back, but hope to next year)

As for Ohio, I did see this blippit in the NYT updates today:

"In Ohio, the governor said a ban on large events was imminent."

I'm not sure what the details will be, I am guessing on events over 1,000 people? It looks like things will be more disrupted that was thought, a few weeks ago; how far into the future is what's hard to say. I'll see what other information I can find.

...Excuse my little foray into roleplaying in a server not meant for it, when Florence requested questions Ace Attorney cross examinations came to mind and I was like "perfect opportunity". I've wrapped it up now, we can get back to Pred V Prey things...
It was fun reading it, as I didn't expect it xD

In Switzerland, the event ban was with 1'000 people, but most likely will be corrected to 300.

The Federal Council will debate about that tomorrow

I had heard that it's going to move like a really bad flu season- bad in the spring in fall, but maybe not too disruptive to events in the summer.

Ah, I wonder how long it'll take to settle down? Though I'm not a scientist, I'm thinking it's here to stay, like any other disease, and we'll have to wait for a vaccine, to really put a damper on it...which, might be a year-18 months?

Oooof.

Also, this seems almost surreal. I'm in a very remote, isolated place, where the economy is pretty much based on upscale summer tourism: as far as finally landing a job, I think I'm gonna be in limbo, here, for a while longer. I'm trying not to fret, but geez....just as I thought I'd got to a point where I have a way to get around, and could start to resume a normal life again...this weird virus.

Chances are, that UV rays kill the virus. This would mean, that it would die out in spring when the earth is moving closer to the sun again.
Scientist couldn't find out yet to my knowledge if this is the case. So there's a chance, that this will be over in a month or two.

Also it's possible that after having it you're immune. If this is the case, the virus would die out "automatically", though would infect a lot of people before that.

I heard six months was the time they projected for a vaccine. Could take longer than that, though. With any luck, it'll be here within the year.

And I'm very sorry to hear about it throwing a curveball. It really is awful just how much it can affect people, even without them having it. I'm sure some tourists will turn up in Summer, though.

I think it’s more likely to fall into the latter category.
Speaking as someone with a casual interest in how diseases work this one isn’t very good. Like most living things it has some basic needs, eat and reproduce. Since people are getting sick this means that their immune systems have picked up on the intruder and are doing their best to drive it out, so it’s a little difficult to eat and reproduce when you’ve got white blood cells kicking your door down. In the cases where it actually kills the host, well, killing off your source of food and shelter is a pretty short term plan.
(I’ll just emphasise I am not an expert, this is mostly based on a half remembered conversation with my biology teacher about twenty years ago, when it walked into class with a heavy cold and she decided to explain how viruses worked, using me as the example.)

I was imagining that it would tamp back in the summer just because peoples' immune systems would be less encumbered during that time.
The scale of it is surprising, considering its close relative SARS only made it into 8000 people- I'm curious if it won't linger and recur, like it'll be the flu/corona season from now on?
The reaction amongst people and governments is definitely surreal.

You should open up a Savings-Skunk Etsy shop if you can't find real work ;)

Yeah, I'll need to be selling stuff on Ebay, and what not, to stay afloat, here. Something tells me that with the markets tanking like they are, it'll take a while for things to bounce back to normal levels, but hopefully it'll be OK in the summer.

Thanks...and yep, this is gonna throw a lot of folks a curveball, I have a feeling.

Well, all we can do in this crisis is sit back and listen to good music :)

Anyone knows Mike Oldfield? :)

Gosh, I remember him, and the music from the Exorcist, Tubular Bells...has been a while!

Makes me wonder what music would be good for catching foxes : P

Yeah, the whole thing is kinda crazy. With all the cancellations going on, it's incredible that I got to attend TFF when I did. It was only two weeks ago, they really snuck it in last minute:eek:

Of course I'm not worried in the slightest :D*panic buys all the hand sanitizer and toilet paper at Savings Skunk*

A line from DS9 just popped into my head.
Quark : Eat, Drink and be merry...!
Bashir : ...for tomorrow we die!
Obviously that was a little tongue-in-cheek humour.

Foxes hate lo-fi, and definitely don't have a soft spot for good video game soundtracks.

Lo-fi? Why's that??

(also, I have a rough idea what lo-fi is, as a 'genre', though maybe not as clearly as I might...and certainly some things I like are purposefully or coincidentally lo-fi: Brian Eno, Daniel Johnston, &c.)
