I'm thinking of removing the transmission and driveshaft of a vehicle and then fitting a big stator to the motor to just make it a generator, then start with a small battery bank and an electric motor fitted to the rear differential. As I can afford it, I'll add more batteries to go longer stints without the 'generator' and ultimately remove it when it's not totally necessary.

So like a DIY Chevy Volt? I can see that working surprisingly well for a RWD or AWD car, maybe save for battery space. But if it's FWD, you might as well go straight into electric only mode.

I've done a similar thought experiment for my VW. In theory, I could swap the rear subframe for one from a Golf R and hook a motor to the diff for hybrid AWD. The ICE would power the front and electric would power the rear based on splitting the electronic throttle signal. Then I looked up what it was like to convert a 2WD Golf to AWD (which for some reason, has been done) and I'm very content not spending money on that.

If I can suggest a platform, maybe a Fox body Mustang? And not just because fox. It's probably perfect in terms of packaging, and you're not losing much if you turn the 4 cylinder into a generator.

Are new episodes out? :)

Nope...just season one. But have not seen the show yet so decided to give it a try. Wasn't sure where to watch it before now.

Review so far:

-animation is ok; backgrounds and characters look nice/rich, but the action seems a bit wooden. 5/10

-plot: seems pretty strong here; 8/10

Bit more serious than I might have needed right now : ) But just saw one episode. Am hoping for a bit more humor, to balance things out? Jury is out so far on my overall take on the show.

I've got a mate who owns a scrapyard, and he did a 'not so eco friendly' modification to a vehicle.
He dropped the engine out of an Aston Martin Vanquish in to a ratty old Ford Transit, tinkered with it a bit (added a few super chargers, etc). This thing had a 0-60 time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 'OhcrapI'mtooterrifiedtofindout!!!!'.
I drove it once at an abandoned airfield....
......

!!!

(Was fun though!:D)

I saw the show subbed before it hit Netflix. Pretty much this, but I'd say the pacing is more of an issue. It seems a bit off compared to the Manga (though the Manga starts having pacing issues later on). They also cut out a character development scene in a later episode. I liked the animation style, I thought it worked pretty well.

And yes, there is comic relief coming. But if it follows the Manga for season 2+, we'll see it straying away from humour to try and push the serious storyline through.

@DRGN Juno I think I'm going to need something a little bigger, I get some extra use out of my 4-wheeled vehicles: This is my current rent dodger

I'll give it a chance, certainly. Maybe it sounds almost crabby, but I've never been a really huge anime fan. Out of the many things as I've explored about Japanese culture in the past, in some depth---literature, especially more modern (postwar-present), music, cuisine---I've never really felt very 'moved' by most anime, with a few exceptions. (I tend to like older stuff, as in 60s, and such; maybe for the stylized simplicity?)

Manga-wise, there's a few things I like a great deal, notably by Osamu Tezuka: I was able to read his complete series Buddha, and that was really amazing, quite a gritty, moving heartfelt telling.

So much of this boils down to personal taste, and I'm always looking for things that might engage me, in whatever genre they might be in or cross.

Ooo, haven't seen one of these Toyota vans in a while. I wonder what these things are like for powertrain packaging.

Ah, I wanted to see that, but it's restricted to some weird streaming site here, that you have to pay too much for.

Weird...folks cut the cord on cable, only to have to spend as much or more on all these streaming sites. I do plan to watch this, though.

I prefer classic simple cartoons over anime too :)

Read a lot of Tim und Struppu (tintin?), Lucky Luke, Donald Duck Asterix etc :)

Dodging rent is always good! Yikes, was it getting high, out east. Well, and even here.

Honestly, I'm not much of an anime/manga fan either. I was just drawn in by this one for some reason (probably because furry, but idk). I liked the worldbuilding and where the plot was going before it went completely off the rails.

Oh, a huge, huge fan of TinTin, and Ducks here, especially the great 1940s-1960 Donald Duck/Uncle Scrooge works by Carl Barks. The world he creates is perfectly immersive, with such a deft blend of the comic, tragic, and a sense of adventure and freshness.

More recently, I also fell in love with Jeff Smith's bone, who seems to have been influenced by Barks, as well as Walt Kelly, of Pogo Possum fame.

It's a rwd 4cylinder forklift engine that sits under the drivers seat. Tempted to convert this one because it's so neat but can't say I'd mind more head room.
Classic stepvans are attracting bc of the simplicity and ease of access to everything, also I see trolley's go up for auction sometimes and that would be the epitome of nifty. Some are even already electric.

I started doing this while I was in Florida but the rent there wasn't anything compared to here. I'm looking at $1500/month if I wanted a place to myself in this particular area. I'll take showers at the gym instead tyvm...

Yikes! Rent was about $1,000+ month, to be in a decent area of Baltimore, about $1,500+ near DC...here, it is still about $1,000/mo. in Traverse City, less in the sticks, but then, you are a good hour away from any jobs. (These prices don't include heat/cooling, water or electric) It's gotten really hard, to keep monthly costs down, in relation to income.

I started reading the manga not because it was being mentioned too much, but because someone from here recommended it to me.

Ah, same here! Though, I am thinking after seeing a few: I think I need one that is funnier? Not that cartoons always have to make one laugh: but, that would be good, right now :)

Hmm, Maybe Sonic X? It's a children's show, I've watched it to practice English ^^

The episodes are on YouTube, so you could watch them for free.
The show has it's serious moments, but also lot's of funny stuff of course.
Not sure if you're a Sonic fan, but if watching it entertains you, then it's fine anyways I guess ^^

I see! Yes, Beastars is really dark.

I don't know what kind of fun you are looking for, but off the top of my head I can suggest Jan's comics, like Swords and Sausages, College Catastrophe, or even Nine to Nine.

I spent < 2 months rent here buying /building this and I can sell it when I'm done. I've got friends with bigger rigs with more complete amenities that make me wonder why this isn't a more popular route? It's really changed my life in terms of less stress, and the ability to save money and experiment with jobs and hobbies. I'll buy a piece of land somewhere and build a little something on it at some point, but for now this is great..

Also I want to to watch all these shows but I have shared Netflix etc accounts and I'll probably get weird looks if stuff like Beastars keeps popping up on the 'because you watched' section~

OK, I'll take a peek! Am not super-familiar, beyond the games from Sega Genesis, and....various fan art, I have randomly seen as a cross-over part of the furry fandom. (I had never imagined there could be so much Sonic art, of all...different types :p)

Will take a peek here, as well!

Huh...the last cartoons I really liked? Gosh. From the 2000 to the present era: I really loved MLP FiM, especially the first seasons...oh, and I loved Teen Titans, the one from 2003-2006. I used to dream of Cosplaying as Beast Boy :p

Oh, and I used to watch Bob's Burgers : )

Ones I didn't like, post 2000: Bojack Horeseman, all those shows by Seth Mcfarlane.

90s era stuff I liked: Tiny Toons, Ducktales, Darkwing Duck ; pre-1990s, it's a huge list.
