The first flight ever recorded as the "longest scheduled passenger service" was a Qantas wartime flight dubbed the "double sunrise." Operated from 1943 to 1945, it went from Perth, WA, to the Koggala Lagoon in what is now Sri Lanka. A Consolidated PBY Catalina flying boat operated the route, which spanned 3,052 nautical miles and took 28 hours to complete one-way. One plane operating this flight also set an endurance record for a point-to-point commercial flight that stands today, clocking 32 hours and 9 minutes airborne.
