Really interesting and dangerous story! The only reason I stress about wild animals like that is because of my one hiking experience when I was 14. I was hiking near Ricketts Glen State Park (look it up if you want, it's a lovely place in PA. Lots of waterfalls and stuff that you don't typically see in this state) with my mom, and we kinda broke off of the trail a little. Not the best idea, I know, but I kinda wanted to explore and see if we could see any waterfalls that were off the trail, and my mom was there with me so I figured, "Eh, what's the worse that could happen?". We went pretty far into the forest, and we were about to turn back because didn't see any waterfalls, and we heard a pretty loud roar. It sounded somewhat far off, but we looked to our left and saw a huge black bear and 3 cubs with it. The cubs scrambled up the trees (A terrifying sight, actually. You know that the mama bear is angry if you see that lol) and the mama bear was up on her hind legs. I've heard nasty things about bears that have their cubs near, so my whole body just kinda froze (looking back on it, I guess it kinda makes sense as to why I picked a guinea pig as a fursona if that's how I react to danger lol). My mom took my arm in her hand and very slowly started to walk back the way we came. It was a spine tingling experience for sure! On that same hike, we encountered a couple of rattlesnakes, as well (we didn't see them, but we heard them loud and clear!). Luckily, we got away from that hike without incident, but it can be pretty dangerous! In hindsight, it was kinda stupid for us to leave the trail, but I was curious and my mom didn't think there would be any animals so close to a trail that is so frequently traveled. Every time we hike now, we don't even think about stepping off the path (no matter how badly I want to sometimes XD) Phew! Story-time is over!
The NE is really pretty though! Lived here my whole life, and I don't think I'm too keen on leaving when I get older!
Ought to not matter for long in my case if I get my way- I want to drop the transmission and put an electric motor directly on the rear differential (that gearing I may have to modify), then use the engine up front as a backup generator to charge the battery on longer stints. Also have gotten the idea to maybe mount a 20 gallon propane tank and have the unused power from the panels split distilled water and then use a freezer compressor to store the hydrogen that could then run the motor before finally having to burn diesel as a last resort. I've realized that even my 600watt panel goes unused in full sun pretty often since the batteries top off and then there's no where for the power to go. Also, those Isuzu trucks pretty often have big refrigerator units that probably have a suitable compressor. The only thing I'm wondering about is how many city buses end up with good highway gearing. I imagine most of them are optimized for low speed traffic. You also can't get that balcony on a city bus because IIRC they're unibody (or at least some single unit framed body) vs body on frame like those International school buses.
Coming from the motorcycle, where I had to set up a hammock out in the elements every night, having a 'pod' out of the weather with blankets and electricity feels like all the luxury in the world sometimesHa! @Ravofox wouldn't hurt a fly! I hope that you didn't pay him much (if at all) for your sake, because I don't think the results will be very satisfactory XD
Neat! Thanks for that! I'll put it on tomorrow when I go out and forage for more things to plant in my garden!
Also, I can imagine that a lifestyle like that (always being on the move and maybe feeling a bit cramped) can take some getting used to. It probably doesn't give you that comfortable feeling of hunkering down somewhere and having that feeling of, "Hey! This is my home now!". It'll probably feel super awesome once you get settled in and all!

That sounds relaxing! Why not bundle up and have a picnic down there or something? Since it's cold, you probably won't have to worry about any bugs
*pokes my head out of my burrow and sighs*
Welp... so much for foraging! Guess I'll be filling that hole for the majority of tomorrow
At least my fist came, though! Woohoo! Bring it on, budgies! Or don't! Your call!
Huh, I guess a cheap hitman is still a hitman!Yeah, but remember he's just $9.95 for 3 months when you use coupon code MISCHIEF!
I was at a friend's cottage a couple of years ago. A friend of his that I didn't know before had his Prius sat on/rubbed/mildly damaged by a passing black bear.
You examine your new fist.
You look up to notice a duck in the distance, watching you. You don't know how long he's been there, but you blink and he's gone.

I've always wanted to see a tarantula! I kinda dislike (but I'm also kinda thankful) that the wildlife in the USA is so tame compared to other places like Australia and Mexico. You guys have giant spiders and monkeys and all sorts of cool animal palsReally interesting and dangerous story!
The wildest and most interesting thing I've seen in nature was a wild tarantula passing by in the woods.

Could also theoretically use the hydrogen to heat/cook etc.
Yeah, I've heard that they can get pretty nasty around vehicles. Did they have food in the car or anything?
*nervously gulps and looks all around me for the birb, to no avail*
I didn't need sleep tonight anyways...

Oh ok. I thought the bear completely ransacked the thing lol. At least it wasn't anything major!Nah, apparently it just got close and brushed past it or leaned on it or something. Her front bumper was slightly popped out on one side, but that was it.
You turn around back into your burrow. Next to your bed, you see a note that definitely wasn't there before. You carefully unfold it, a lump swelling up in your throat as you open the letter and read its contents.
"Quack."
Right...Good!
Hey! I am a good innocent Spotted Skunk.

There was this time when I was washing the dishes and looked up to see a scorpion in the ceiling. Thankfully we have these geckos that eat all the insects.
Oh ok. I thought the bear completely ransacked the thing lol. At least it wasn't anything major!
*freezes in fear before slowly turning around*
Right...
If you're an "innocent skunk", then I'm a merciless, carnivorous guinea pig XD
The most exotic thing I've seen in PA was an orange salamander lol
I guess you don't need bug spray down there, huh? XD
My mom and sister went down to Mexico once and they said that those lizards were everywhere!
I think I'm off to bed! I finally felt comfortable enough to sleep with my eyes closed, but now I'll have to sleep with them open again to keep an eye out for birb bombers XD
Good night!
But you are a cute innocent Guinea pig.Right...

Why have you gotta stereotype preds in such a way u.u*Scurries back into the thread*
Hi, everyone! Oh. I see the predators have been making veiled threats against prey in here. HOW UNUSUAL.
AAaanyway, I brought soda for all my new predator friends. I'll just pour it into this bowl. *Pours green glowing liquid from bottle marked "RAT TRANSFORMATION POTION"*
Uhh... "rat transformation potion" is... it's just the name of this soda. Just ignore that, hahaha. Well, help yourselves.
hehehe. this'll fix those nasty predators. they're no match for my rat cunning. After this, it'll be prey victory every time. AND we can all sleep together in a big rat pile. I'm so clever.
...what?! Why is everyone looking at me like that?
True that- I've been thinking this out so I can buy it a piece at a time for a good while and still have it work. Solar first>hydrogen if its convenient> 20KW of lithium (thats 4-5k$ of Tesla Model S batteries)If you're going electric-only motive power, you're gonna need a hell of a motor. Not saying it's impossible, but EV conversions get expensive quick.
This might help calculate power needs:
EV West - Electric Vehicle Parts, Components, EVSE Charging Stations, Electric Car Conversion Kits
That said, there's hybrid conversions for heavy diesels (mostly city buses). Maybe look into getting something with that conversion and adapting it?
Why have you gotta stereotype preds in such a way u.u
Some preds just wanna share your celery and scamper around~
But I'm already a tiny fox if I wanna be:
Thank you. I am indeed an innocent skunk. I am known for caring for all the people and helping them. And it was kind of you, a merciless, carnivorous guinea pig, to correctly refer to Spilogale Pygmaea as an innocent skunk. I can already tell he's super innocent.![]()
Awww! That is a really cute and lovely drawing! But I'm already a tiny fox if I wanna be:

Then the fun starts with a roughly 40KW 3phase AC motor (hoping to find an old industrial one that i can refurbish, they're not terribly complicated inside). It's possible that could go in line with the drive shaft to hybridize it and the generator could be a belt driven item to be engaged separately while in neutral. Then I'll buy more and more batteries over time until I don't find myself using the diesel engine often, at which time I'll throw it out and replace it with a small emergency generator.
It isn't important that it be able to do long highway stints. I imagine it rolling for two hours at 55mph to get to the next town and recharge for a few days while I explore the area.
Happy Sleep@BreyoGPBreyogami!
Dont let the demon birbs bite!
Hey, those are all subjective! Most of us just have resting hungry face :cMmmmayybe prey would be more comfortable around preds if they didn't constantly stare at them hungrily and make oblique references to eating them! But, sorry. I suppose tiny foxes are okay and I shouldn't make assumptions. As an apology, my predator friend, have this rat transformation p- I mean soda. Soda, just soda. Delicious soda. *tries hard to look innocent*
Thank you ^^Awww! That is a really cute and lovely drawing!
I imagine you'd have a "regenerative braking" effect stealing all your horse power until you turned it off.D'aww!
I'm wondering how the intermediate motor mounting would go while you're still running engine power, but before disconnecting it. Apparently city bus conversions are a trade secret.
Sukhoi will remember that.
You are welcome!Thank you ^^
Had you not seen that one yet?![]()
Hey, those are all subjective! Most of us just have resting hungry face :c
But sure! I'll try your soda!
Here- *pulls out glowing orange bubbly* you have this too!
Cheers!
*'Chugs it' using a little foxy slight-of-hand*
I imagine you'd have a "regenerative braking" effect stealing all your horse power until you turned it off.
The real problem would be if you tried to drive away with the motor while the transmission was engaged o.o
Would be worth installing a safeguard to that!
Sukhoi is no match for a celestial being and their poncle fox! ^^
That is sad, I'm sorry :cYou are welcome!
I believe this is the first time we get that close up. Still looks good!
That soda is fine! it'll just make you feel a little.. mischievous.. for awhile :3Humm... something seems a little off. Maybe it's the way he's not transforming into a rat.
Uh, thannks. I will drink this with eagerness and lack of suspicion later.
I bet it's something mean. It would be such a predator thing to do to slip weird potions to unsuspecting victims. Who does something like that, seriously.
(And that is a great picture, yep)
Worst case I could just wire up a big relay that disconnects the motor anytime the neutral indicator light isn't on, although having that incorporated into the inverter controller would be much more graceful ^^A good controller unit should either handle it automatically or give you the option to disengage regen braking. Since it's an AC motor, you'll need one before you do anything else. Batteries are usually step one, but since it's a generator deal, you shouldn't have to worry about it if it's strong enough.
You misunderstand. All birbs with the Dragon Gulch Air Force are protected by the highest grade plot armour our scientists can drunkenly dream up.
And c'mon, been there done that ;3You misunderstand. All birbs with the Dragon Gulch Air Force are protected by the highest grade plot armour our scientists can drunkenly dream up.
