It’s a picture of a Royal Navy Warship of the West Africa Squadron chasing down a slave ship as part of the British Government’s (successful) efforts to obliterate the slave trade in the period from 1807 to around 1860.
I have an interest in naval history and I found reference to this particular effort on a Youtube channel I watch
(Here’s the video if anyone is interested
)

Needless to say it sparked my interest and I’d like to find out more about it.

Interesting how the entire abolition movement went through an easier time in the UK...IIRC, an Act of Parliament was what did it in

Pretty much. I remember doing this as part of my exams for "highschool". It was also widely recognised that if a slave came to England and walked it's lands they were a free man, as no slaves were allowed to be kept.
