No, that's not betraying your side, that's discovering the truth and changing your principles and values to accomodate them. Only issue there is that that's an exceedingly rare experience: rarely does someone have something so astronomically important happen to them that their core values and beliefs are altered.

...I am a rat. I live in a nest in an abandoned basement. I avoid all material possessions like the plague, because you will just have to abandon it at some point anyway. Where is this supposed material gain I am dishonorably gaining?!
