Science is the act of finding interest in something and looking at it closer. But yes, I am feeling somewhat pedantic or scientific today! Just 30 minutes earlier, I was discussing cryptographic salting! Always add salt to your hashes if you want them to be secure!

If you want to know more, or if you don’t, then your opinion has been promptly discarded! Cryptographic salting is when random noise is added to the hash. I’ll give an example: let’s say you have 3 passwords: password, password, and 3rdpassword. Without salting, these will be encrypted as something like: 18&5$9, 18&5$9, and 36*#8&03, making it more profitable for hackers to figure out what 18&5$9 means, since they get 2 for the price of 1. If the passwords ate salted, however, they are all different, and the hackers will have a harder time decrypting the passwords. (Of course, dictionary attacks are common, which is why you shouldn’t use passwords like password or antidisestablishmentarianism!)
