Thank ye kindly for all your help. It is not deserved.
*gets comfortable for story*
Sally checks no-one is coming, then sits down.
"It's a very quick story, you remember me mentioning Sir Bralor? Sir Bralor was a knight, brave, true, noble, honourable, fierce fighter, a fool. His one fault was his inability to turn down a duel, or ignore any slight to his honour. One day he was called upon the defend the village of Heaven's Fall from an opportunistic dragon. He gathered a force of powerful warriors to aid him and took position and waited. The dragon was a wily opponent he knew of Sir Bralor and his fatal weakness. One day the dragon flew down to Sir Bralor and his army and challenged the knight to a duel, he taunted Bralor, insulted him, sang rude songs about him, and after a very short time Bralor drew his sword and bellowed his acceptance. The dragon promptly retreated back to his cave, Bralor gave chase cursing the dragon every step of the way. Bralor reached the dragon's lair, it was at the end of a very narrow crevice, the dragon was at the end, taunting the knight. With a roar Bralor charged, he was halfway along when the dragon sprung his trap, he pulled a tree trunk out out the ground, attached to the trunk was a rope, the rope was attached to pegs holding up the loose rocks along the top of the crevice. The tons of rock fell and crushed Sir Bralor, mid charge. The dragon flew down, retrieved the knight's badly bashed helmet and returned to the village. Bralor's troops were simply hired troops and they felt the beginnings of fear when the dragon returned, when he threw Bralor's ruined helmet at their feet, half of them turned and fled. Outnumbered and without Bralor's peerless swordsmanship the rest were easy meat for the dragon. After that he turned his attention to the village, no-one who was there survived. Only those of us who were away at the time lived. Bralor was brave and honourable but that same honour he valued so much was used against him and thus he failed, he failed his men, his mission and his order."
She finishes the tale looking disturbed at the obviously painful memories.

What a dishonorable scumbag that dragon was. The world would be much improved were everyone as honorable as knights.
...But they’re not. Tisn’t the world we live in, and being lawful stupid isn’t going to change that.

*ponders*

I think I see your point...

"Anyway, let us talk of happier things. The bag of herbs is... simply a bag of herbs, use them, trade them, burn them whatever. The amulet however is something far more interesting. It's a rare teleportation amulet, wear it, grip it firmly and think of your destination. You will be instantly transported there. Be warned it does have limits, the main one is it can only be used once a day."
She hands over the bag and the amulet.
"Good luck"
She gives you a wink.

Whether I succeed or fail, I’ll be both alive and in your debt. I hope it’s not lawful stupid to say that I’ll gladly repay you in any way I can after this is resolved. On my honor.
And... I misjudged you.
*winces*
That’s a lot of humility for one day, I gotta go kick some questing ass. I’ll see you at some point in the future.
*waves goodbye, vaults over the stew stand and runs for it, trying to find a place for the amulet amidst my portable armory*

We dragons are always the bad guys in fairy tales and stories what did we do to you?

o...

that makes sense, people are afraid of power i think, and making enemies helps keep half educated people iine... not that i approve of the tactic

(There are some newer storys and books were dragons are not bad, also, from a rl view dragons were the combatiom of fire and snakes, something that scared many, although the more snake like Asian dragons were seen more positively )

There's also the legend of Boitatá in my country. It's a giant fire serpent as described by Indian tradition, who protects the animals and resorts to its transformation powers to confuse (or even burn) destroyers of the forest. The purpose is noble, so I guess it's more of an antihero than a bad guy

EITHER WAY DRAGONS DESERVE LOVE AND HUGS TOO!

I'm not surprised. My last um.... apprentice (the poor fellow) found my transformative 'practice potion' to be less than agreeable with his... Organs.

In my defense, I told him to stay out of my lab and the sod thought it was some kind of fizzy drink. Quite fascinating research on the after effects though.

(Interestingly dragons seem to have had an unduly negative reputation in European folklore and mythology. Either being displayed as the 'bad guy' or as a sign of ill omen. As an example, the monks of Lindisfarne reportedly saw lights in the sky, apparently dragons, just before the Vikings attacked. In the UK this reputation seems to stem from the rise of Christianity over Paganism and the imagery of priests and other holy men vanquishing or banishing dragons appears a common theme in folklore and local legends. There are a few examples of the dragon being dealt with less harshly by some saints, for example,
'St Petroc whispered a prayer in to the ear of a Cornish dragon, after which it swam out to sea to new lands; and St Carantoc led another dragon away from its swamp abode to the wild places where few ventured. Even local priests had the power to banish dragons, at Winlatter rocks in Derbyshire, a priest banished a dragon with such force that his footprints were left entrenched in the solid rock. This dragon retired to the Blue John mines where his sulphurous breath warms some of the local springs.'
However these seem to be the exception rather than the rule. I do agree that eastern mythology presents dragons in a more benevolent light.)
