(Not sure if the substitutes have more power, they are designed to burn like black powder for use in old guns, but have less smoke, and less <leftover part> to clean, although i am not sure)

(I'm assuming that smokeless powder provided more power to the shot. since the battery at Malta was black powder and was rendered obsolete by the invention of smokeless the same year as it went active.)

(black powders substitute is something that uses smokeless powder to act like black powder, but is not as powerful as normal smokeless powder that would be dangerous to use in black powder weapons... if i heard and remembered this right)
