They have attempted to take over my ship before (when I went on a Guifrog toxin bender). And have attacked and stabbed me in the past over a totally trivial matter involving me standing on their foot in retaliation for them slapping me, (petty of me I know but even the best falter from time to time, and I am far from the best.)

Alright. Would the kind of person who, to attack you, does so outright and in the open (I.E. me) also be the kind of person to subtly assassinate you and attempt to get away with it? I feel like trying to kill you in front of everyone merely proves Florance didn’t commit this particular homicide—hold on, we’re not human... vulpicide?

Oh absolutely nothing, but you will note that Florence isn't the captain anymore, I am! So I stole it back. Perhaps this was to permanently remove the competition?

Well you also have that sense of honour which pretty much prohibits you from stabbing me in the back. Florence was only stopped in their attacks due to the intervention of my excellent first mate.
Now let me ask you!
If someone not of your high moral standing (and Florence has been a pirate) has failed in an open attack when met with superior firepower, (for want of a better word), would they not try again under conditions that more favoured them?
