(This is a reaction card, and it serves 2 functions:
One is “Draw to X”. Most cards that draw cards draw a set amount of cards (I.E. +1 card or +2 cards), but Watchtower says “Keep drawing cards until you have 6”. This serves as a defense against common attacks like Militia:
When you have to discard cards to Milita, you can play a watchtower to draw that many more cards (3 card hand, play Watchtower, have 2 cards, draw 4, a large number). If you don’t get attacked, it still draws a respectable 2 cards from a 5 card hand.
Watchtower’s second function is as a reaction card: Whenever you gain a card, you can reveal Watchtower from your hand in order to either “trash” (get rid of) the card, or put it on your deck. This also serves as a defense against attacks; some attacks, like Witch, give your foes bad cards:
When you would gain a Curse due to an opposing Witch, you can reveal Watchtower to instead trash it and not have it, which is convenient. Or, if you gain a good card, instead of putting it in your discard, you can reveal Watchtower to put it on top of your deck and get to draw it sooner (sometimes the very same turn, especially since Watchtower can draw cards!)
Watchtower is a convenient, useful card that defends against a lot of attacks but is also useful outside the context of attacks.)
