Just because they don't look good to you doesn't mean other people dislike them. Don't put yourself down. You're a DESSERT, remember? Desserts make people happy.
i will admit i did OK on that BG shot, since it was my first one tho

Kiba has a Raijin form, where his hair and mane become pure white light, he is covered in his clan-markings, and he becomes enveloped in electricity. and he can move a little beyond the speed of light. thats the only change to him in that form, other than him gaining more strength and endurance
People be having these fantastic magical creatures while my main character is an old pothead with a severe gambling addiction, arthritis and a deteriorating liver.
... sort of.

Dang, those are sick! So, these are all alt. forms of your 'sona, yeah? Which one do you usually stick with or do you change them regularly (based on mood, situation etc)
Asking because I don't really have a 'sona myself (unless you count my generic-ass cat but... I'unno, I don't vibe with that little fuzzball)
I just change 'em based on mood or situation
the first form I got for him is the mammoth-minotaur, but later changed to boar-scorpion to match my chinese horoscope (pig) and zodiac sign (scorpion)
aaaaaaaand later on I felt like being a bird, inspired by a mobile game, so there's the peacock-phoenix one
and yet LATER I was like, "fish is pretty damn cool", so there's the "fishy emperor" (shark-orca-snake) one

what can I say ?
I literally drew 'em like, "let's see if I can make it work"
and halfway through I was like "let's keep at it until I can make it work"
but I scrapped them all because I didn't wanna have to redraw all of them over and over when making new arts of my sona
but HELL WITH IT, I'MMA BRING 'EM ALL BACK NOW THAT MY SONA IS A SHAPESHIFTER
prepare for some abomination sent your way lol

I think having your 'sona shapesift makes it even more creative.

What if one form only emerges when the character is experiencing grief and emotional distress? Or one form pops up during fits of rage, one form is kinda rogue and activates whenever it feels like etc

Anyhoots, I've gotta run back to work. Hoping to catch more info on your character later.

Also, here's my down-to-Earth, completely normal, nothing weird abut him, absolutely ordinary little man - Gemellus the Mad.
He looks pretty damn decent I'd say ;)

Honestly, Sally (current PFP) very ordinary, no real powers, slightly overweight, long lived, singer and dancer.

Kathleen (one of my OC's) Navy captain, reasonable leadership skills, socially awkward, suffers from bouts of clothing undergoing Spontaneous Massive Existence Failure.

As much as I love OP characters (superpowers woohoo), I find down-to-Earth OCs to be much more interesting. While I'll most likely never grow out of weaving fantasy/sci-fi elements into the lives of my fictional people/critters I always make sure they all have at least one flaw holding them back for the sake of making them, well, interesting. Maybe it's just me.

I forgot where I was going with this. Brain's fried, AC has kicked the bucket and the heat's cooking me alive.

Other then his hat, Lenago does not any big powers, maybe i is good with some light magic.

The only real power he has (if you can call it that) his is comical nature, being a character focused on humor, he can resist any blow, no mater how fatal they would be, while still getting hurt by them)

I do agree that down-to-earth can be fun and refreshing in their own way, but then it also kinda limits my creativity to some degree.
