I must confess
First time I ever heard of the term "fast travel" was through you, and I remember not ever having looked it up. And then, a few weeks ago, there I was playing Phantasy Star 4, and acquired this magic that allows my team to go to different places I'd already paid a visit to, and when I went to the check game FAQs... There it was.

I've played games and used fast travel as a kid without knowing it was called fast travel

It's useful. It's handy if you need to travel from one side of the world to another. But I prefer it when it is presented as an ingame element, like a spell or teleport platform.
