In Two Worlds there were teleport platforms and Morrowind had the Mage Guild who could teleport you or teleport scrolls (Along with the boats and Silt striders)

It's useful. It's handy if you need to travel from one side of the world to another. But I prefer it when it is presented as an ingame element, like a spell or teleport platform.

EarthBound also uses a PSI move to travel to past locations

I'm very fond of how Chrono Trigger handles things, i.e. worlds not too big to require a teleport option, and not too small for exploration. But it makes sense that eventually you need to travel between worlds, as going through different eras is a key point in the game, with varied ways to achieve it
