I'm very fond of how Chrono Trigger handles things, i.e. worlds not too big to require a teleport option, and not too small for exploration. But it makes sense that eventually you need to travel between worlds, as going through different eras is a key point in the game, with varied ways to achieve it

If you ever want to read a book that has a wonderful appreciation of english and some very clever wordplay I recommend finding any of the 'Jennings' books, written by Anthony Buckeridge. They are hilarious, if a little difficult to follow at first.

In Phantasy Star there's both a spell, an item that allows for fast travel between areas and another for getting back out from the dungeons
