There definitely are big differences. Hard to say if one could consider it as it's own language, since it's certainly related to high German.
In Baden-Württemberg, South Germany they speak Schwäbisch, which does have some similarities with Swiss German. They usually also understand us way better than the north.

I think in Norway there's two towns called Kristiansund and Kristiansand. Probably lead to many wrong navigation entries too xD

curious thing, here in mexico we don't have that kind of confusing names, but we share the same place names with other countries, specially spain, such as Guadalajara (méxico) and Guadalajara (españa) which can be confusing on a whole new level xD

here we have streets with the same names for every city (literally!!)
here you can't trust that an intersection will be easy to identify on the map just because it is for example "Hidalgo + Juarez" as every city might have one of those already XD
