So you are free to do other stuffs during the working day when you're not actively working on an assignment or something? That's pretty sweet!
Basically, yep! I get assignments every day, and I can choose to accept or refuse an assignment. But I earn per word translated, so the more stuff I'm able to accept, the better. Some days can be super busy, other days can be very slow, and they tell me to not work on something else that happens to come my way if I'm already committed to a project. And I usually don't work on weekends, but depending on the size of a document and the deadline, I might need to carry on with it through Saturday and Sunday. Like that one time when I translated a game and distributed Steam codes here in the end, courtesy of the client~

I do feel like this company is rare in its approach, from the onboarding process to payment, even for a translation agency

Oo, that's very flexible and pretty awesome :3
...as long as they pay you enough. Which it seems that they do, so that's translatetastic :3
*reads the stuff you're translating over your froulder (frog shoulder)*

Considering that I live in a country where cost of living is like this:

1654344589583.png

Plus, I live in the Northeast, where consumer prices in the state capital are like this:

1654344681248.png

Plus, I live in a small town 300 km away from the capital, and rent prices tend to be half the prices of the latter...

...Yep. They pay me enough :>
(In fact, they pay 0.08 cents of dollars per word in specialized areas. That's considered average by translation market standards)

Bark, bark!
*drags along a piece of bark, it is a POTION ingredient*

Eee *low living costs fingerguns*
I didn't know Brazil was quite that much lower in the indices, oo.
But don't conflate my living costs with the average living cost of Helsinki, now, either! It's waaay more expensive down there! I live in a much smaller city and living here is much cheaper (luckily, I couldn't afford to in Helsinki with my current pay. unless I lived in a box or had like three roommates) :3

That's part of the reason why I chose to work for foreign companies, the comparatively higher pay when cost of living is considered. But also because of how super complicated it can get for Brazilian freelancers to contribute with Brazilian companies, e.g. tax returns guidelines are different, have to open a company, pay an accountant, etc etc. So I preferred to ask about everything to everyone, studied some accounting for my own purposes, and ribbit!

Ain't life in a smaller city nice and cozy, though? At least, when you can find all you need there. Personally, I enjoy it <3

Whats that for? Is it for a MAKE A BARK FACTORY POTION?
"possibly PROTECT TREE POTION"
The bark was a potion ingredient for a specific potion: the Bark-Cure.
Thanks, Textsynth. Ah, yes, the Bark-Cure. The potion to cure tree bark. It's also cures barking, and cures by barking *nodnod*

Ribbit indeed :D
That's funny, that it's easier to work for a foreign company than a Brazilian one :O

It really super is :3
I have lived in all kinds of places, from tiny villages to large cities, and I prefer the smaller cities most of all - they're convenient, yet the place of life is not too hectic, nor is everyone all up in their neighbors' business out of sheer tedium :D
