I just read about this, people born with deformities that make them look like rats are being exploited by beggars, its really sad. Reason I'm posting it here is that people complain about all stories with furries and humans are always about the humans treating furries bad and its kind of like that, the poor rat people are considered to be gods and mistreated at the same time. It probably wouldnt be better for real furries.

I feel bad for them. Imagine the social pain and agony they had to go through life just because of deformities. Not to mention the humiliation of the fact that they are reduced to begging.

Over here in Belgium we have it too, begging mafias are basically mafias that force people to beg all day, they usually are allowed to come to a warehouse full of matresses or something to sleep, and are generally protected from beggar rivals who would possibly beat them up, in return they have to give about 80% of their begging wages or so. It sounds like a poor profit, but you have to remember that the maffias employ hundreds if not thousands of beggars, and 20 Euros a day will quickly grow into a daily collection of 2000 to 20000, just for laying down a few matresses and buying a few hundred cans of beans or something.


Also, they sometimes amputate lesser successful beggars just to make them more look pitiful. All of this I learned from a local TV program called Telefacts, which isn't generally known for lieing.

Hmmmm....Beggar Lords. Read something similar in The Haunting of Alizebel Cray. Sounds like a homeless shelter with thugs.

Thats really sad.

When I was in India I saw a lot of beggars. Sometimes my mother would give them money and other beggars would come and ask her for money if they saw.
A lot had missing limbs. My uncle told me what Werevixen had said - they will aputate a body part for sympathy or disfigure themselves somehow. They will do anything to keep themselves and their family alive.
If they had children then the children would do the begging also, once again for more sympathy.

So to stop them from being treated badly you're going to make it so that the people who treat them badly are treated badly, hence keeping the discrimination cycle alive?
