Rebuilding a name for ourselves

The only ones who should be ashamed are the dog diddlers and the child abusers.
Furries in general have nothing to really feel ashamed of.

The stigma however is set and you'd have a hard hard time trying to change the public opinion.
Negative opinions are always the hardest stigma to break and get rid of, people would in general believe a negative over a positive.

News and media have saturated the general psyche with a sense that most things have a negative and so it generates a cynical type of thinking.
Makes accepting the idea of negatives much easier than a positive.

The few bad eggs in the fandom have ruined the reputation in the media since the news is usually a furry found out in some illegal act.
Rarely do they do a story about a positive fur doing some kind act.

I tend to just not give a fuck of what other people think of me, if they want to be ignorant let them, it's there loss.
also why change who you are and what you do just so some people you don't even know will think of you differently.
my friends aren't furry yet they are okay with it and are knowledgeable about what the fandom actually does and thus dismiss false rumors, that just stands to show that the "haters" are just really ignorant ppl, and you can't argue with ignorant ppl.

As you get older, you will find out that it is very important what others think of you, especially those who give you your paycheck.

I don't think the outside world cares or knows about furries.
It's just a couple kids on the Internet trying to troll others.

Yes, there are the certain people who you would want think to think better of you, and so you should try to show your nice shiny side, but still if someone's going judge you on something like your free-time interest, then why work for them? Jobs should really be based on your work ethic and how you act while working, not what you like doing in your free time or what your interest are in my opinion.

Actually they do care, I used to work in Medical Records.
They make you sign a work agreement that states that your outside activities will be will be of approved actions.
Like if you bad mouthed the Clinic in your FaceBook saying they didn't clean the floors or such can be grounds for dismissal.

Also talking about any patient's medical record in a public manner can be grounds of dismissal and several other actions can be also taken the same way.

It sucks but the many jobs have the same type of employment agreement.
Gives them legal right to dismiss you for breaking it, covering them from legal action.
Heck most say you can't sue or be part of any class action lawsuit.

I think the only problem people have furries now is that just love to shove it in other's faces. Most people I see nowadays don't give much of a shit about us anymore. Especially since there are people worse than furries.

I'm not talking about anything like that where your bringing your job into other parts of your life, what I'm saying is your job and being a furry has nothing in common, as long as you don't bring furry matters or drama into the job and likewise job stuffs into your furry interest then no one should really care what you do (furry wise) in your everyday life, but I totally agree if you diss your working environment or talk about private job matters then yes they have the right to fire you from the job.

I guess most of you are right, but changing views of others against us will improve self esteem and a reputation of relatively good folk. It's not our fault the world is full of pedophile and zoophile scum, but it would be good to not get caught up in the cross fire of hate and stereotyping. It is getting tiring being called "fur fag", and it would be good to not give a toss but it's hard for some. The media has ruined us with their paranoid bullshit, but we have to fix the damage at some point instead of hiding in a dark underworld because the rest of the world hates us.

Charrio is spot-on. I really don't see it as something to be ashamed of, though if you're not graceful about it people in the workplace might get the wrong idea.

The people who legitimately have their panties in a knot over cartoon avatars and dragon porn are the ones who should be concerned, not me. I'm too busy being worried about things like paying my bills, the health of my aging parents, and whether or not people in the world are safe and being treated fairly to care about someone's secret fetish or weird hobby.

A great reason to not namedrop in the office where your boss might dig, but little else. I don't believe anything I'm doing is wrong (even if not public material) so I'm not going to beat myself up and be ashamed or afraid of being "found out" in peer settings. Not even if other people like to draw foxes shitting in diapers or actually do have sex with animals.

Any adult stuff is my private business, and there's plenty more fish in the sea if anyone jumps from "anthro fox" to "fucks dogs". Nothing irreplaceable about them.

I think that's just called having self-esteem.

I've never really been exposed to furrydom outside of the internet, though there are furmeets/furcons not that far from were I live, I may go eventually, would be nice to meet new people and make friends.

I honestly think that furries deserve all the hate they get. On account of all the cringey and inappropriate things we collectively churn out.
