For the Year of the Horse I picked something very different, but I wanted to try drawing a character in MLP style, something I've never tried before.
I think that this kind of style would really benefit from some thicker and cleaner lines, which are quite the opposite to what I'm used to work with (I would have liked to achieve a "softer/rounder" look), but for a first time it turned out cute enough to me! ^^

Guess I'll claw away at this. Please excuse my confusion though; are these limited to our fursonas or anthropomorphic characters from other sources? Or if we're basing this off other characters, could you try Adder from Animals of Farthing Wood (the show)? It's quite underrated and before my time, you could argue. But I enjoyed Adder as a character and her story. She's a European adder, needless to say, so a quick search will give you references. I'll let you roll the dice on which character you want. I ask this to be SFW/safe nudity and poignant/sad as I am a melancholic creature. My fursona is a fennec fox!

Ref: this is the only one I have and I drew it myself. Shading isn't quite finished but I think I like the way she looks. She's also curvy idk if you can tell from the ref!

Hi everybody! I'v been rally busy in the last few days, so I got slowed down a bit and the next pic will be a few days late.
As usual, thanks everybody for your patience, this is quite a big project for me and it will just take some time to complete. ^^

I'd prefer to work with OCs/fursonas (both anthro and feral) rather than fanart. This is mostly because OCs tend to have more interesting designs and I want to improve my skills drawing subjects which are not familiar to me (and also to gather a nice collection of different poses and body shapes, that's another factor which really makes me pick a character over another).

(BTW I loved Animals of Farthing Wood as a kid, even if it was kinda traumatizing for little me - the hedehogs scene and the baby mice caught by the butcher bird haunted me for a long time).

Understood. And yes, it's quite an underrated show for it's time, the books too you could argue. That show had some very dark scenes. And the themes tackled. Hope you enjoy drawing my sona if I'm selected; best of luck to all.

Hello, I was wondering if the dog spot was taken or not? It looks like your thread says the SFW spot was free?

Pose: I honestly wasn't sure and figured I'd let the artist choose whatever they vibe with.
Flower: I was thinking maybe something white, like a Clematis. Or something red like a poppy.

For the Year of the Ox we have this lovely Tauren.
I was eager to draw a body which is both feminine and sturdy. Plus, the flower I was asked to pair with her (eremurus aka foxtail lily) really gives the composition a "rural" vibe. I also love that the flowers both contrast the dark fur and matches the highlights of the golden ornaments on her braids. I took some small liberties on the markings, making a few areas just a tiiiiny bit darker to give the pic some more depth, hop you don't mind!
This piece took some time but I'm so pleased of the outcome.

For the Year of the Dog we have Chika, the demon dog.
I really enjoy drawing this kind of slim-framed bodies for male characters. Aaaand I also love drawing bondage/shibari poses, since they give me an opportunity to practice with more complex compositions, muscles tension and shapes.
Overall I really like this one. Between the character design and the colors it gives me a somewhat "Japanese" feel.

Side note: I'm sorry for not answering all your comments and messages straight away (and even sometimes forgetting to answer at all), but other than being very busy I can also be extremely shy and insecure (and English isn't my first language, I'm from Italy and I had to learn it on my own so... well, that doesn't help). For the Year of the Rabbit we have Kyle.
Between the character's palette and the flowers I was asked to pair with him (narcissus), this turned out to be another very soft/pastel themed piece - which I can't say no to.
I've chosen to work on this one mostly for the theme: I've never drawn something footpaw-themed. But I had fun nonetheless!

I just couldn't resist the fist character: I'm Italian, and the wolf is our national animal. That, paired with the Roman vibes of his design made me want to absolutely draw him. I went with a very "classical" pose which can be found in many ancient statues depicting Roman emperors.

For the second one I just love the color palette which, paired with the Clematis flowers, gives the composition a very "wintery" feel.
Also, she has another body type I'm not used to draw, so this piece has been good practice for me!
