Sadpanda canned

as I understand it, a Dutch law has now sealed the fate of this website because it's lolicon-ridden and the site was hosted there.. am I missing something?

I've seen some youtube channels that are usually pretty vocal about muh degenerates actually decry this as "book-burning" and censorship and shit, which was ... fun to watch. I think there's even a political campaign in Japan that's been successful, speaking specifically of that sort of happening and how horrible it is that their underage waifus are being taken away

Even the hacker known as 4chan is on it; last time I checked, they boasted about BUSTING pedos, not helping to save their porn folders

I've never even heard of Sadpanda, but I don't think I'm gonna miss it. I don't really even get how these sites hosting lolicon stuff and other similar pedo-territory pictures are even like, allowed. I guess because most laws don't really cover them. Sad that people are defending this crap though.

You must not have paid attention recently (recently being vague, as in "At least the last half-decade or so"): 4chan is rife with such content.

Between the rise of Alt-Right and /pol/ on the site (There's a reason so many Political Compasses make jokes about the bottom right quadrant and its fascination with such content, even when being created by people who occupy the top right quadrant), the changes in the site's management and moderation, and changes in how the changed staff / ownership enforce the rules (Ostensibly? Still banned. Practically? Haha, pull the other one, it has bells), let alone the changes outside 4chan on the internet in general (There's a reason - even on Twitter and Tumblr - people still make the occasional "If you consume or defend this content, fuck off" posts; let alone hell-sites like AO3 which basically revel in being the Inkbunny of the fan fiction writing community), the site is basically inundated with people who... Misha summed it up well enough here:
There's a general subset of the Alt Right/Lite that thinks LGBT shit is degeneracy but embraces pedophilia, and it's simultaneously unsurprising and absolutely revolting.

LOL, As i like the furry anime art style allot the lolicon craze is stage 5 cancer. Anything that makes them cry is comedy gold in my book.
I can almost hear the REEEEEEEEEs if I close my eyes and focus.

Catdog

I caused a little stir.
Always knew that site was treading on thin ice legally but wild to see it finally get taken down. That's like when a bunch of those gross reddit subforums got nuked all at once and reddit was like "okay maybe some moderation" lol. It always happens like 5 years after the fact but at least it happened?

Guromanga and a few other similar sites got nuked recently too, maybe there was some sort of general takedown for obscene material hosting sites or something.

Here you have basement incels who complain constantly about "QUILTBAG accepting pedophiles as being members of their group" (Not sure if that is even true) on their little political boards, yet are sitting and crying as their "precious" underaged anime porn is taken from them.

The website notorious for trolling just got triggered in front of everyone and reviled their double standards.

They shouldn't throw rocks when they live in a glass house.

You mean 4chan?, That not the first time they 180 on there opinions and are assholes about it. They cried about fandom's porn sections, yet at least 5 boards there are full of porn spam mainly anime stuff.

It's what those creatures are best at. Crying. Whining. Complaining.

Ewwww of course 4chan is complaining as they are basically scum of the earth and the Internets largest cesspool. (Well there are more scummy sites but they are blacklisted for very damn good reason.)

Although half canine, is not a wolf.
Redditors and 4channers getting upset because a main source of underaged porn is getting removed?
This gon be good.

Then again, 4chan and Reddit get upset easily anyway that it's almost unsurprising they're upset.

It always has been selth , the average age is 6 to 12 years old. It's where the "its a 9000 year old demon" meme came from. It so funny the 2 sites crying where the ones who would go on how furry = zoophila.

Since it’s relevant to the subject of Chans and sites getting canned: Good news everyone!

This whole thread is a trainwreck of people who don't know what they're talking about its actually really upsetting.

First thing's first: Exhentai, also known as sadpanda, was the largest repository of doujins online. What this means is that it was chock full of works by Japanese doujin artists that don't exist anywhere else. It going down was a tragedy in part because it chanced some works, some pieces of art that people created, being lost forever.
Also it was hardly a "lolicon site". It *hosted* lolicon, however it did not focus on nor was it even a majority of that content. It was not dissimilar to sites like e621 (which hey, also hosts loli content). The only difference is that instead of focusing on furry art, it focused on Japanese indie comics.

However, good news! The site isn't dead after all. Shortly after it died, an effort to archive as many works as possible was created called Alexandria Exhentai. Additionally, someone actually archived all 50 terabytes of the site's data and finally, due to the help of some channers, managed to move hosts and now exists once more. So its not dead, and its absolutely a good thing it didn't die.

Also it feels weird for people to be talking about the LGBT community in this thread, as many of the works on Exhentai were LGBT in content. Gay, Bi, Trans, Lesbian...It was all on that site, and celebrated on the site at that.

Good news everyone, the Channers saved the loli porn!

You can find lgbt doujins and art on sites that don't host large quantities of loli porn. But Sadpanda was an ungodly repository for said loli porn.

I also want you to think long and hard about heroizing channers given the context of yet another 8chan related mass shooting.

And E621 shouldn't host said content either.

Would you weep all the same if Pornhub was taken down for hosting CP? Despite it's vast trove of porn for all audiences?

"Good news everyone, the largest repository for Japanese indie works was saved, so you don't have to worry about thousands of works of art being lost forever" would be a much more accurate statement.
And I"m not glorifying channers; I said they worked to save the site and that the site being saved is a good thing. Not that *channers* saving the site is a good thing.
Would you weep all the same if Pornhub was taken down for hosting CP?
I would weep if e621 ceased to be, or if gelbooru or danbooru ceased to be, as I'd know many works of art would be lost forever. Art preservation is important, and it should be celebrated as a site that helped preserve such things to far greater effectiveness than any of its peers.
Pornhub? Not at all, because its a site involving real people, and thus by its nature would involve the exploitation of real child suffering. Drawings are art and aren't made using the direct harm of individuals; irl porn (generally) isn't art and can actually involve real human suffering. You're equating two things of very different degrees of severity.

Also dont try and make this a conversation about loli or 4chan; if the news was that e621 went down, the discussion wouldnt be about cub or alt right furries

There is nothing different about this situation that warrants the focus; it's a slant started in the OP
