Serious Question: are furry conventions friendly? Is it a safe place peaple usually say it is?

So, after seeing in twitter like "Stop having alcoholic commas. Sense guys, if you drink at the point to get a
alcoholic comma, you shouldnt be at a furry convention" and it makes me so sad, to know a place that was supposed to be friendly, we have those kind of things. i didnt care at all, but after seeing this video: "
Furry Conventions have a Drug and Alcohol Problem" by fjord frost, where he just, uh, just say openly about drugs and alcohol at furry conventions ( obviously ). after seeing this i felt like i must do a thread about it. If you guys go often at furry conventions, could say something about it? Cuz i'm beggining to feel its not a place to go and make friends and cute stuff.

I have never been in a furry convention, i plan to go when i get 21 years, and a fursuit, but you know, just a question, and a serious point, at my view. only to finish, im not american, so sorry if i say something wrong and, i dont think this should be in "furry conventions" cuz its a question to the community, im not talking about a specific Furry con. Thanks for the attention.

There's certainly a good deal of drinking at furry cons, but I'd say that alcohol and drugs are no more a problem at a furry con, as they in many other parts of society, say, sporting events, concerts, street festivals, college parties, a night on the town, and, well, life in general. I've seen many, many more obnoxious drunks outside of cons, that I have, at them.

At the ones I've been too, I've have seen some tipsy furs, but none that have caused problems, or needed medical attention...I mean, this probably does happen, and I could see where alcohol would aid being dehydrated while fursuitng, but really, I think most people are quite careful. Plus, the staff at almost all cons will kick out trouble-makers very quickly. As for drugs, I can't say I saw much going on; a few furs might have been smoking weed, which is legal now in Washington, DC, but nothing over the top.

So, to return to the question: America has a drug and alcohol problem, as does much of the world, but it's no worse in the furry fandom, than so many other sectors of society: thus, I wouldn't see it as any kind of reason to avoid a furry con.

Hope this helps : )

Also, a lot of furs seem to like really weak, sweet drinks, I have noted...: P

Would depend on where you're going. Europe have more common sense when it comes to social interaction. Americans tend to be more carefree and open.

A friend of mine went to a con in Germany. Seriously. It looked so damn enticing I almost wanted to to just fly over there and smother her all over.

This was me all day when she sent pics.

Sitting there with a huge grin on my face. If I had a tail I'd no doubt be rocking it so fast and hard back and forth it would defy the laws of physics.

I don't even drink. Most furries seem to have social anxiety problems and alcohol help with it. So if you're like one of them it will be fun there.

People are going to drink anywhere and in any way. Furry Cons are no exception to this rule since alcoholic beverages are a staple in social interactions.

Of all the cons I've seen, they all look very lively with fursuiters bouncing about. Everyone seems to have a grand time so I don't see an excuse not to go to one.

Depends on the convention and the attendees. Anthrocon seemed alright when I went. I didn't notice any drugs or inappropriate behavior, but who knows what happens behind closed doors. The furs I shared a room with were well behaved. Drinking would have been perfectly acceptable as we were all adults, but we were more focused on convention stuff. There was adult-themed art of course, which should be kept away from minors, but that was a non-issue for us as we were used to drawing and looking at the stuff and none of us had kids at the time.
