Main Site So, about FurAffinity...

Talking as a user, I understand the frustration, but talking as a programmer... I'm very sure they must be even more frustrated than any of us.
The main source of frustration is that we can see what's causing the issue, but we can't see why the issue is being caused. It's not a problem with FA's code, but something with the database software side of things. The configuration hasn't changed recently, and it only sprung up over the course of yesterday.

Oooh so that's why y'all are calling other people and stuff? Because y'all didn't make the software that creates the database?

It's been down for a while now. The coding in it isn't that great. If it's gotten itself into corrupted loops, who's to say it won't do it again?
Sure, the site staff and admins are trying their best to resolve the issue, at least of it being down. But it doesn't seem like it really takes much to tip over at all, and it just tipped itself over.

It worries me. I've made this site as sort of my central hub for all the art I favorite and all the other stuff I do. I do have a backup in the form of Deviant Art, but as of late I've noticed a bit of reduced activity there, at least on my receiving end. I wonder if I should hit up Weasyl too?

Now, I'm not saying we should all pack our bags and emigrate over to there instead, but FurAffinity as an internet structure is old, worn, and kind of unstable, like many ruins you see. And for it to still be a popular place to frequent for many furries is baffling. Even Deviant Art has updated it's system, at least a bit, with Eclipse. FA is falling behind kind of fast.

I don't want to be pessimistic but I'm not sure how much longer this great kingdom will last.
I've been using the site for 2 years, and this is the first time a problem of this magnitude has happened to the site...

I caused a little stir.
I used yiffstar/sofurry before FA was a thing, joined FA sometime in 2006-2007... joined Inkbunny... and joined Weasyl.
Only one of those I rage quit was weasyl cause they kept deleting my stories, too much puritanism there. And no, I'm not a cub writer, but stick on inkbunny because it's a fairly friendly community. Just blocked the keyword.
But, after all the site troubles people been having lately, I started programming my own website in python as a backup.
Honestly FA with inkbunny's block system + site security would be the perfect website lol

I honestly doubt it. If this is a site that people enjoy and with the most people, artists aren't going anywhere. I really want to get a commission done by some artists that I've PMed so I have the same worries don't worry.
But, they'll still enjoy it after disappearing for longer than 24 hours?

So, all of my favorite artists aren't going to up and leave because of this?

Worse things have happened in FA's history. It got hacked once, and for whatever reason, people didn't leave then.

They got hacked twice actually if I recall correctly.

People have alot of patience for the site, for better or worse.

GOTTA WRITE FAST.
I've been on SoFurry quite a bit because writing seems to be given more weight but the folks on FA are generally more friendly and the forums actually active.

You're spot on about Sofurry and writing. Got a much better chance of gaining traction with writing there.

We're always working on improving site security. Literally, about an hour before FA's outage we were discussing plans to replace our ancient load balancer which is something needed to enable full site encryption. Lovely timing.
OH NOOO well I'm glad it was being looked into before the outage! I mean even since when I first joined wwaaaay back in 2008 the site has come a long way.

The problems were with the servers/database and not the site... That kinda sucks. But at least it's not the site going kaput for some reason.
I guess it wouldn't be a bad idea to try to spread out, but then I'm just imagining all the stuff I'll have to reupload...Good god, I wish there was an easier way to do all that. Postybirb is fine, but there's a lot of things I'd still have to do manually.
At least you're trying your best to keep up with the demands and not fall behind. I saw Dragoneer said that they were considering replacing a part that would allow for better encryption, so that sounds good.
Just wanted to make a new reply to sort of update the thread a bit.

Smart batto!
I would recommend expanding to sites like Inkbunny for just art
I would like to, but I have severe problems with the stuff that gets prioritized and mostly featured there (i.e. a lot of kiddie porn). The fact that its founding staff was both involved with cub magazines and openly encourages that kind of content doesn't help maters for me.

EDIT: No shade on people who draw/enjoy this stuff though, as long as actual legal line isn't crossed - I am aware that doing it won't make you a default pedo, and the reasons also vary a lot (there was a pretty good discussion on cub art as a way to play out regression/infantilism fantasies for example). Just personally uncomfortable with idea of underage nudity in artwork, so there's that.

Lots of folks have made me aware of that and I've neglected to edit my original post to change that. (EDIT: just fixed that) But yeah, no point in interacting or conducting activities on a site you don't align with, that's just counter-intuitive.
