So I just got "Bitter Lake" on DVD (no spoilers)

Oh MAN did this stink. Seriously seriously bad, guys. Buying this movie will be a guaranteed waste of your $20. No script, no story, voice acting was terrible. Holy crap.

But alas, I'll give whoever the filmmakers are credit for even trying something like this. The costumes were awesome and the camera work was actually pretty well done. They obviously spent a lot of time and had a blast making it, so whatever. I would have preferred to have downloaded it though, but if there's a link to download it on some torrent site, I'm not giving it. Music was alright too.

If you haven't seen it, don't buy it. It might be interesting to check out if you can get it for free, but prepare to be underwhelmed. It's currently the lamest disc in my collection and I have a copy of the Wicker Man somewhere.

It stinks but the fursuits look great. Paying that much money to watch great fursuits is only worth it if you really like furcons so bad you can't wait to see them.

The funny part is they talked about how amazing it was before the showing and people actually clapped and stuff like they enjoyed it.

I mean really that movie was so bad.

Also it was made by the same dude who made room 366. :V

I honestly hope movies like this gain no attention whatsoever except as an oddity or a comedy. It's one thing when people enjoy and produce visual art that's just nice to look at, but when the mindset of "Well, it doesn't make me think or feel anything and there's no deeper message or pattern, but it looks nice so it's great!" starts to extend to mediums like film, you're on the fast road to destroying whatever creative depth and dignity this fandom has.

I like how you siad there was no spoilers in it, when it was already rotten to start with. Can't say I haven't gotten conned into buying something and immediately regretted it just because it was independent. I read this locally-made book called "Guts" by "Cynbad"- a woman who runs escort services in Texas and Oklahoma. I thought- seamy stories about a real-life lady of the evening, and I could self-insert as one of her male clients but no. There were no sex scenes, no conflict that couldn't be resolved in three pages, and no matter what situation she found herself in, everything turns out okay. Country girl going to Big D for the first time, no problem, old family friend comes by and ends up paying for her Highland Park apartment until she can ply her trade for a few months. Rival dancer cutting into her pay at a joint on Harry Hines, she just seduces wealthy Hispanic businessman- the most cliched "Latin lover" this side of Gomez Addams, who takes her to San Antone. About to get arrested in Austin for fighting another dancer for money she stole, she gets someone to pay for her to get out of jail before the cops find out she's a "fallen dove". And then Cynbad has the audacity to write about a confrontation concerning the only characters worth mentioning- her sisters and that never materializes even though it's on the back cover. She complains incessantly about not having a legitimate job but apparently can draw and paint well enough to impress her pseudo-intellectual boyfriend. I was disappointed to say the least in this book.

And for Furry books, i just don't feel like naming names inside the fandom because I don't want to ruin someone's literary career but rest assured, I have seen some bad books in my time. To date, i can honestly say, though that badges and commissions have always looked wonderful.

Sometimes I just can't help but feel that there's a small-town mentality at play in the fandom. What I mean by this is, you know how in small towns, there's not a wealth of talent to go around usually (extremely talented people are rare; chances of finding one in a town of 9000 are thus quite low), so whenever anyone shows even a hint that they can perform a bit above mediocrity, they're hailed as a prodigy and paraded about as the town's pride and joy?
It may not be the best analogy, because the fandom is big enough to actually have quite a few legitimately talented people as part of it, but I think in the smaller niches you still get this sort of effect. Film-making is obviously one; art dominates, writing is below that, then music, then film-making at the bottom, I think. So by that logic I could understand how people would want to celebrate this apparently rather sad little attempt at an independent movie, simply because it was halfway competent and was produced by someone who's part of the fandom. It's kind of a charming notion, but at some point one does wish for something better.

Well gotta say the costumes look pretty damn good. Can't say much else because I've only just seen the trailer for it.
However I KNOW it isn't as bad as Birdemic Shock and Terror. That was the worst movie EVER made

Well, then how do you account for all the good drawings, literature, fursuit design, and music (Sub Level 03, Bucktown Tiger) that come out of the fandom? It's really outsider art but I'd have to say having seen more than my fair share of pretentious modern art that some gullible rubes pay millions of dollars to know that a $20-30 conbadge is actually something you can take pride in.

It isn't even comparable to those. At least with awful movies like say, troll 2 or the room, you can at least be entertained because it was a movie that got released and its just so bad. This hardly even feels like a movie. It feels more like a short that should be on youtube with slightly higher than average production values. Also who the fuck thought it was a good idea to make a dialogue heavy movie using fursuits of all things? The entire movie is just :V :l :V :l :V :l with goofy fantasy accents. The only mildly entertaining thing about this is how the one wolf guy always goes HELL'S BITCHES! in a fake sean connery accent.
