Now that I'm back from the dead, there was a question I wanted to add to this thread.
What kind of seasonings do you add to your steak (if any)? and steak sauce, yes or no?

I usually rub my steaks with salt, pepper, and a bit of olive oil, but recently I've been using this "bottled blend" that I got for Christmas of 2012
I don't care for steak sauce much, but once in a while I like to use A1.

Sadly, your poll doesn't have enough choices.

For me how I get my steak cooked depends on the cut I am getting and my mood at the time. My usual choices for doneness are medium rare, medium or medium well. My roommate on the other hand ALWAYS orders his steaks ultra well done (brown bordering on black, dry as a bone, hard as a rock).

One of my friends will only eat steak if its uber well done and slathered in ketchup. Its a fucking disgrace to the cow that died for its meat.

If you eat your steaks well done, don't bother buying good ones.

I mean, if you don't like meat that's not thoroughly cooked, you could eat chicken or turkey or pork, all of which should be cooked well done. Why go against the grain?

Theres only 2 types of meat I will order rare. Filet and prime rib. I swear once my wisdom teeth holes heal up Im going to the butcher and getting a fat cut of filet. Ill cook it myself using the sear and oven method, since we got a new stove/oven that is fucking amazeballs it will be the perfect test. I am master of cooking steak.

I can cook a mean steak myself, preferring to cook the steak right out of the freezer, makes for a wonderful dining experience.

what does venison even taste like?
!
It mostly depends on how you prepare it. the meat compared to beef- venison has no fat, it is a little gamey depending on where it fed, there are no real super large cuts except the ones they butterfly, if you fake the taste it would be something like a beef shoulder roast cooked until it was dry and then wrapped in plain not flavored, bacon then dried off with a handful of hay! That does not help much! Just know that when it is prepared well, it is awesome!

as someone who worked in a kitchen nothing made our chefs more angry then when someone ordered a steak well done. plus most restraunts will give people who order a steak well done a older piece of meat since the chances of getting sick are less likely since their cooking the fuck out of it.

I want it to scream and bleed when I cut it. Rarest of all.
I was reading a book by terry pratchett where anthro cows walk up to your table and ask what cut youd like and they would cut it off themselves. Now thats fresh!

I always wait till mines thawed and at room temp before cooking. That way you get the perfect sear.

Son of a bitch double posting. Ugh, its to early.

I marinate 'em first. Usually an A1 one or there's one my dad's been making that I can't remember what's in it but it's smoky and tastes great once the meat's been on the fire. Once they come off it's the original A1 sauce on the side for dipping. I don't dare drizzle it over the meat, I still wanna taste it.

And putting ketchup on a steak is like putting sugar on broccoli. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

I loved well done steak with ketchup when I was a kid...
Never tried it again tho. I think I'd still like it.
So tasty!

Blue rare's my favorite! Myself and a couple restaurant cooks in the area have a *wink wink* 'understanding.' They give me "rare as I can get it" and I keep it to myself if I get sick off it. Haven't gotten sick yet.

I like the big thick cuts, when I make it myself. Oven-broiled, 3 minutes per side tops, no preheating (not that you'd preheat broil anyways :p) If the cut's right it'll be a bit cold and maybe purple in towards the center. Just the way I like it: Delicious!

I can sear the steaks right out of the freezer, and they can come out nice and juicy as well

I use beef stock seasoned with red, black and white pepper, garlic powder, ground Habenero pepper as a marinade/flavor injector followed with a gentle coating of Fajita seasoning, garlic powder and Cayenne pepper after both sides of the steak are properly seared.

I prefer to use A-1 for the sauce, or even a sweet honey BBQ sauce if I am in the mood with mess of fresh cut steak fries on the side.
