Space exploration and technological advancement in that frontier would be a crippled form of what it is today if there wasn't the political motivations of the Cold War behind it. Likewise, without an entrepeneur pushing, marketing and funding R&D in personal computing, we would be nowhere near what we have today. Yes, it would have happened eventually - but eventually would have been a long way off. That was going to happen anyway, with or without the help from Apple & Mr Jobs.
