stop rewarding mediocrity

Fuck reviews from gaming sites.

A perfect example is Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes.

A game that had graphics like (If not better)Monster Hunter 3/Tri, 16 playable characters, A normal hack n' slash gameplay (like DmC).ect

Game gets released, "Reviews" shit over the game. By calling it a mindless button masher, having crap graphics, Bad camera angle, Shitty plot .ect 5.5

How depressing.....

that's why I mentioned that there are plenty of other ways to find out if something is good or not, reviews obviously aren't everything

does anyone even read anymore?

I read review sites all the time, and I always check up on games that I'm interested in buying. However, I put more leverage on the opinions of my friends or acquaintances whom I know have similar tastes in video games.

I also most certainly agree that FPS games need to get a hit of creativity. Perhaps some World War I? Korean War? Or really anything that isn't World War II, or some hypothetical future war where you fight suspiciously re-Communist Russians or Muslim terrorists?

So Modern Warfare 2?

Note the "anything that isn't" part before that.

If you already know that and are simply stating the obvious...than post something more substantial?

if you say so. I've spent lots of time posting relevant and detailed posts, and when an overwhelming majority of posts are insubstantial and pointless, I think I'm entitled to a drive-by posting every now and again.

But I don't see Modern Warfare 2 mentioned in that post, and no, I didn't read every post in the thread.

Kisses for everyone!
Throughout the history of games, there have been great and innovative games, mediocre titles, and terrible attempts. For every Super Mario Bros 3, there's an E.T.; For Bioshock, a Kane & Lynch, etc etc

Replace 'games' with 'movies' 'music' and 'TV' and you got the same song. It's the way of media - there's great pieces, lots of okay ones, and your pick of terrible things. It's not that your complaint isn't legitimate - everyone would like a larger pool of great games to play from - but by being a conscious consumer (which mainstream society can't always claim to be), you're already doing your best to achieve that.

There's always going to be new innovative ideas that aren't implemented well (EyePet), and mediocre games of the same song and dance that are polished to an amazing playing experience (God of War). It's just the cycle of the industry.

I'm surprised 13 people agreed with Aden's post. I didn't even know 13 people visited this section.

If anyone from my school/steam friends/anywhere else says "Buy MW2, all the other games are shit, don't be a noob", I'm gonna barf. Same goes for saying Dead Space is scarier than Penumbra or Amnesia. Or TF2 is the best co-op shooter.

I don't care how many people plays them, and I don't give a shit about the graphics. I want immersion in single player, and I want to have fun online. And I can have a lot of fun with Borderlands, Killing Floor and any other game I already own.

How do you think Final Fantasy has lasted as long as it has?

Off topic, but they really should have stopped at 10. Everything past that has been garbage.

On topic, I hate 95% of today's FPS games. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark for the win :3

I actually liked Medal of Honor for allowing me to finally fucking choose between semi, burst, and auto on my rifle.

Fuck CoD's arcade style bullshit, with their endlessly respawning enemies until you move one foot forward on the map, forcing the player to run about like an idiot and generally *not* do things you would do in a combat environment.

Not saying MoH doesn't do that too sometimes, but I am *so* ready for something different.

And I actually liked MoH Airborne. :<

I don't even read reviews - they're just advertisements. Ever notice how they go way more in-depth for games that have huge advertisement campaigns, like Medal of Honor and Call of Duty?

I am facepalming because everyone seems to think the thesis statement of this thread is simply "Read reviews."

It's more like "Be educated about a game before you buy it." Whether or not you use game reviews to achieve that goal is up to you.

in fact, I'm going to add this to the original post
