Taïga, good hyena

Hello everyone,

I plunged in the "world" of furry a few months ago. I've got several lovers, friends and acquaintances that have one or more fursona and identify to them to varying degrees (often, a deep connection). I'm active on Mastodon (custom instance of one of my SOs) and I see a good deal of furry content and discussion.

I looked for a long time, at first, I thought I was a cat. Then one day someone talked to me about hyena when I was puzzling myself that I had both cat and dog treats and I identified at somewhat both. I researched hyenas, and that's definitively me, Taïga: sweet, energetic, loving and playful hyena.

My current profile pic is the first commission (PronghornPunk) I made, and I love it so very very much!

Now, I'm looking for an artist for my ref sheet. I'm leaning hard toward Felinar, who seem to be an artist that would appreciate the project.

My SO is also looking for having her ref sheet made. It's her birthday gift! She's scared to specify things badly and end up with a result she would like exactly. She a cow/rabbit hybrid. If any of you have some pointers to artists that would like that kind of stuff, it would be most welcome. Thanks

Other than that, I don't know how much I will be involved here. Just: hi, I guess.

But most importantly:

Hi Taïga! I'm The Lion King fan, but I enjoy hyenas too! ;) I am disappointed that many people blame The Lion King franchise for mistreatment of hyenas. :( That's true that hyenas are mistreated and underrated animals in life, but it's not fault of The Lion King creators! Those creatures had been hated by most humans before TLK. I heard hyenas were evil characters in many legends and myths.
In the past humans hated lions too. I believe The Lion King made people love lions, because it showed lions are friendly and sympathetic characters - not bloodthirsty monters like in culture had showed them before.

Wanna talk about it?

Hi, I re-read my post several times and I don't mention The Lion King so I'm confused. That being said, I don't think I ever said TLK was the only culprit but Western countries don't have folk tales about hyenas, due to the lack of hyenas in western countries. Yes, many culture knowing the hyena present them as "evil", which could be interpreted in the light of them being competitors for food. Anyway, I'm not judging other cutures, I'm judging those I can. And yes, TLK present a very cliché and evil representation of hyenas. Yes it is the writers fault, they wrote it. Period. I have no idea how TLK influenced the appreciation of lions, I don't have any knowledge regarding this. And I loved TLK when I was a child, but now my tastes have changed and I don't like it anymore. The hyena problem is really minor compared to the latent queerphobia, Scar being queer coded, like so many villain in Disney movies of that period (they recently changed that).

I wasn't saying about you - I meant other people. The reason why I love The Lion King is because I do love cats - both domestic and wild ones. As I kid I didn't like Tom and Jerry, because there a cat is evil and is hurt all the time. When I watched The Lion King first time I thought 'Oh, it's like Tom and Jerry, but with a good cat'. Actually, there is no connection beetween Tom and Jerry and The Lion King, but I interpreted it differently than other people.
The Lion King used to be the most hillarious movie to me and Simba quickly became my favourite character. I thought this franchise (I say 'franchise', because there not only movies, but also video games and comic books) is enitrely innocent, but later it turned out it's very very controversial and that made me really disappointed. :( Many people say it's a n*zi propaganda, which I believe it's definitely not truth, however the problem with hyenas is serious.

I'll never stop loving The Lion King, because it's main reason why I became a furry, but hyenas do deserve more love!

I am learning programming in Python language, therefore soon I am starting creating The Lion King fan game where lions and hyenas will be friends to each other and Simba's enemies will be mice. Because as I said, at the beginning I thought The Lion King was like Tom and Jerry, but with good cats.

Hyenas are cool. I've tried to make a hyena fursona without much success, but I'm thinking of trying again.

(My current fursona is a rabbit. I'm more of a twitchy and nervous prey animal than a big scary predator, I suppose.)

Edit: Welcome to the forums and yeet yeet yeet to you. :)
