I forgot how to TF2...

BUT HOLY HOLCONIA INSIGNIS OF AUSTRALIA I GOT TF2 TO WORK!
Had to mash down a tonne of settings, but its finally playable.
How does the whole crafting thing work now and what are the best servers to play on?
Already posted in the ID thread but my Steam is corpser_uk if anyone wants to add me.

Well, in tf2 metal is sorta the unofficial trading currency. Craft together 2 weapons from the same class to get a scrap metal, 3 scrap metal to get a reclaimed metal, and 3 reclaimed to get a refined. Most hats go for a refined and a reclaimed. Crafting items with metal usually isn't worth it, as you can just buy things from traders using less metal.
As for servers, it depends what you like really. I like Valve servers as they have no ads or mods, but of course some people prefer servers that are modded to the limit with extra features. Saigns.de and Wobre servers are pretty loaded with modifications.

Simple, Play the game, I Can't directly from experience say one exact server to suggest, i find the good times come from random servers i seem to find on my travels, you also find a class through bit of experiment/learning you want and well it becomes a lifetime together

least from how i found it, Pyro was my first main class and still is my main class :3.

Crafting is pretty easy; Take two weapons from one class, and smelt them into scrap metal. Take three scrap metal, and combine into reclaimed metal. Take three reclaimed metal, and combine into refined metal. Use this crap along with other items in your inventory to combine into new weapons! There are already preset blueprints in-game to craft damn near every weapon.

Also, if you play pyro, for the love of whatever you hold holy, learn to airblast. You just right click, and your flamethrower will shoot a blast of compressed air which can extinguish your teammates, and if timed right, reflect virtually any projectile, players included.

What kangaroo said. You can go from a retard with a flamethrower to something that can actually benefit the team if you know how to airblast.

I had a little blast last night before i read this thread, i was mostly playing as a sniper and pyro. I cant believe i can actually hit things with the sniper, did pretty well with him and got almost 30 kills with deaths in their teens. Then i switched to pyro and had that backburner equipped and done horribly with it, 40 kills and over 40 deaths, dont think i managed to blast back a single projectile. Will give that crafting thing a try.

The number one thing you need to realize is that in TF2, KD means absolutely nothing. What's important is attacking or defending your team objective.

TLDR;
3 weapons = 1 scrap metal
3 scrap metal = 1 reclaimed metal
3 reclaimed metal = 1 refined metal
6/7 refined metal = 1 key
21 keys = 1 set of ear-buds
and so on... that's basically how the crafting system is for trading.

On the craft menu, there are blueprints that tell you what you can craft and what you need, may it be a special weapon or anything.
It also has halloween crafts if you wish. Looking up the wiki for weapons also helps.

As for best servers, try and look for ones that are quite busy, not full, aren't password protected and has no bots.
A lot of the SKIAL, aerolite and home-guard servers are ideal.

I would also recommend trying to play in a server nearer to your location if you don't want as bad lag.

Um wrong who cares about the objective it's all about getting tons of kills. Your supposed to do what is the most fun for you personaly in the game even it means screaming in voice chat and spraying gay furry porn in your teams spawn

I find being a spy and doing that to the enemy's spawn the easiest way to get a lot of funny backstabs.

For crafting?
You only need two weapons/items if you wanna make a scrap, not 3.

Only weapons work. It's not like you can craft hats and crates into scrap metal.
Oh, as items I mean like the boots the soldier has, or the different sappers since they are not actual "weapons"
They just go into the weapon slot.

In addition, assisting your teammates. TF2 runs on a points system for everything you do. There are no deductions (as far as I know) for dying, but you do get points for the following:

-Kills (the obvious one)
-Kill assists (dealing damage with a teammate getting the final hit, while healing a teammate as a medic, lighting an enemy on fire with teammate killing them, jarate and teammate kill, buffing a teammate, etc)
-Objective completion
-Objective defense
-Construction/upgrading as engineer
-Destroying enemy engineer equipment
-Healing (there is actually a medic achievement where you have to score the highest on your team only by healing, as well, healing can apply to your dispenser, scout's mad milk, and heavy giving sandvich to teammate)

So welcome to TF2: where the seriousness is made up, and the K/D ratios don't matter!

Depends on which boots for the soldier. The gunboats only negate blast damage from rocket jumping, but the mantreads allow you to apply your fall damage to your enemies if you manage to land on them. Also, they allow you to survive the Equalizer taunt which makes for good times.
