The whole “Vegan vs. Meat Eater” debate

I have often said the reason I dont eat meat is that I would have to eat people too, to make it fair.

That said, I have never given an ethical reason why not to eat meat, because there are people who seem to take pleasure in not caring. Besides that it's subjective anyway. If you dont think an animals life is worth much, then you obviously wont care how it ends to be on your plate.

I also dont exactly think its wrong to eat meat, but what I dont agree with the argument that we need it around because it is an incredibly unsustainable and inefficient way of producing food at the scale we do. The economy of it will eventually get to a point where they can't raise cows at an effective cost and they'll just be putting fake meat on your plate without you knowing. Or what places like Taco Bell do and just give a mixture of oats and spices that contains like 20% meat.

Also just saying: if you base how you feel about Vegans off of cringe compilations and a vocal minority, you might as well write off the furry fandom too. As in most things, there are tons of people who dont eat meat and just dont really talk about it. Its not their way of life, its just a diet. : ^ )

Most vegans are lovely people, I think I've only met a few of the angry preachy ones (though they do stick out rather). I go through to Glasgow a lot, and there are a few venues and bars which have a vegan menu but don't make a fuss of it, they're just enjoyable places to hang out and eat whether you're vegan or not. To me that feels like a good way to normalise the idea rather than shouting people down or shaming them.
I cut down on meat a lot when I was living by myself a few years ago, but curiously I didn't end up liking it less. If anything, it made it feel like the special high-value food that you have occasionally as a bit of a treat. My wife has trouble with vitamin B absorption and a low-meat or vegan diet would take some figuring out for her (though probably not impossible, admittedly), so consequently we haven't gone that route. We do try and buy the meats with the highest welfare standards wherever possible though.

>Haven't given any ethical reason why you shouldn't eat meat
>Proceeds to guilt trip people by questioning their morals and values

Vegetarian and vegans are never for health reasons but for political statements and to 'feel good' I've met one person who claimed they didn't like the taste yet I'm on fence about that being truth.

I eat meat primarily as part of my diet, not necessarily because meat good, veggies evil. For myself, meat is the only thing, combined with other nutrition, including vegetables, that can fully satisfy me

Same. Non-meat food does not curb my hunger very much. I don't enjoy feeling hungry.
I also enjoy the taste of the various meat foods. I enjoy eating, and food in general.

We need acres upon acres of land to grow edible plants more land than animal farms need might I add
land that could've been forests and home to many animals

That's actually quite false. I used to be a farmer. Pound for pound per acre, plants produce far more total available calories than animals.

I don't think it matters. Diet is different for everyone. What is good for one person, may not be for another. As long as nobody pushes their beliefs on me (regardless of them being vegans, meat eaters, etc), I have no issues. It's a personal choice, and one I couldn't care less about.

I don't eat possums. You're safe.

I’m actually disgusted by meat. I don’t want to touch it, and certainly don’t want it inside my body. That’s sort of a health thing I suppose, as the whole disgust reflex comes from our primeval urges to avoid things we consider poisonous. So in my head and at a subconscious level I’m labelling it as unhealthy and rejecting it.

Does make it easy to stay veggie. Never any temptation whatsoever when the idea of eating it makes you nauseous.

Besides, gorillas are pretty much veggie anyway, so I’m allowed :)

I'd still rather go hunting for meat than the store bought crap. That's the issue. So much of the livestock is fed nothing but corn.

Even our chicken eggs taste different. Our chickens free roam and for the sake the gods those little fucks are vicious. In the time we had them we no longer see Tics, worms, toads, grasshoppers , garter snakes and field mice.

They lay giant tastey eggs. It's why a wild game animal has flavor. It's been fed a variety of nutrients from numerous sources. Even then corn feed cattle start to develope issues health wise if they're not slaughtered.

Honestly I have more of an issue with corn grain and high fructose corn syrup. But much to my dismay I can't really avoid that garbage.

Many people go vegan for health reasons. I mean for one thing you cut out cholesterol from your diet entirely.

Cholesterol isn't really bad for you.
Depends on the type of cholesterol, mostly. But yeah, you do need some amount of it to live, but there are some other ways to get it.

Your body naturally makes it from fats that you eat iirc.
