Thread Graveyard Suggestion, Banned List Suggestion

How about a section of the forums where threads go to die?

For example, locked threads or offensive threads could go into the graveyard, there could be a disclaimer about offensiveness, and everyone else could be entertained reading them. And instead of deleting threads, just put 'em in the graveyard.

If anything, they'll be good examples (not to mention a source of many lulz).

Also, how about a banned list? Like a locked sticky in the thread graveyard, listing who's banned and why. Again, it would make a good example of what not to do. ;) Plus, we'd avoid all of the "Why did he get banned?" questions.

They already kinda have something like that. Just look through the member lists if you're bored enough to know, and any names in red are banned. Look through past posts and read the latest ones, and you can usually figure it out.

I actually like the idea of a list of who's banned and why. Seems most times somebody manages to get themselves banned, its all too easy to act innocent of any harm and make it look like the staff are just ban-happy without reason. So, if someone's banned, whatever they did to earn it should be publicly available to anyone curious.

Maybe even a record of previous offenses in a repeat offender's history. It'd be better than having people bother the staff with "why was he banned" or accusing them of being arbitrary and over-reactive. Seeing a person's history might make it easier for people to accept that yeah, eventually you have to start responding more harshly if a person isn't learning their lesson.

I only partially agree with the ban list. It's cool to see who bas been bashed by the ban-hammer an' all, but it's kinda humiliating for the person who was banned.

Thats kinda the whole point... you're not exactly gonna go round making a fool of yourself a second time after being called a pillock a couple of thousand times :p

It could be done very matter-of-factly, not to be purposely humiliating. I think it's a very good idea, and educational for other users as a what-not-to-do sort of idea.

Also, since users most often seem to be banned for humiliating OTHER users (on the forum at least -- this is just about the forum, right?) or doing other similarly trollish things, it'd be somewhat appropriate to at least have it out in the open, even if a more polite tone were taken with them than what they gave.

I like the ideas, since I know other forums that have post graveyards (Sven Co-op, AGNPH, etc).

It doesn't need to go into detail, just something like:

TheMocaw - Banned for: Trolling, 24 hours.
Sibe - Banned for: Trolling, Abusive Behavior, Spamming, Abusing Admins, Evading Ban: Permanent.
Yak - Banned for: Being purple, 10 million billion years.

Something like that.

Short but sweet, like that.

Wow. Thats sure knowing how to portray asinine personality from leaders no offence. -_-; The idea is good as long as the details isnt very colourful enough to make those close to the person hate them if they saw it. >.>

I can see the ban list now. It'd probably be a few hundred people long....

Yeah and then I'd like the reasons why they LIFT bans too.

Mainly because we've seen posts where a ban was permanent then reversed. Or a ban was just for a week, and also reversed. I'd like to know why the admin decided to lift the ban so we can see how fair the treatment goes.

On the speak of banning, why not make the minus bold and in bright red next to the username or put a "BANNED" sticker across the middle of the avatar?

Because the text is easier and can't be copied like an avatar.

You could do something, like what DA and Youtube do, put up a big red message box saying, "THIS USER HAS BEEN BANNED FOR ___ DAYS FOR THE FOLLOWING REASON(S):" and then perhaps a one or two word description.

Uhh Sheezy Art has that and its actually bad enough showing all details as I just described on my last post. >.>
