Trouble Picking/Creating a fursona.

As the title says, I've been trying to make/design a fursona for myself for a while now. But the all designs and concepts I've so far done don't feel like they fit me. So im asking what some way of designing a fursona that "fits."

any advice is appreciated.

Lots of people have made similar threads before, you can browse those for inspiration if you want.

Your avatar is a personal thing. Everyone does to their personal preference, with a different method. Some people make it borderline spiritual, while others (like me) just went with an animal they find cool and did a little dress-up.

My advice is to just put in themes you enjoy, and don't overthink it. You're likely to change your design over time, anyway, so don't worry about what will happen long-term.

The general piece of advice I can give: Use your favorite animal, favorite colors, etc, but you've probably already thought about that.

Besides that though, you can look at your favorite themes and aesthetics. So for example, if you really like pirates, you can incorporate some of that into your fursona. I personally really enjoy medieval weapons and hoofed animals, so my sonas reflect that.

You should also look at your favorite characters from any media you enjoy, and try to figure out what you like about them. It can be a very enlightening activity! Sometimes people enjoy certain characters because of their looks, or maybe because they relate to them on a more personal level. And then you can incorporate your favorite traits/design elements into your fursona.

And as Khafra said before me, there are a lot of threads about this topic here on the forums so you should definitely take a look at those!

Took me a long time to figure out mine. I found I related to the redwolf type, the fursona seems to be a bit of a reflection of my self and being creative with was actually more simple than what I wanted. Just a red wolf with black piebalding and a azure stripe across his mane and tail and green eyes.

Stray Cat Terry

테리 / 特里 / テリー
I used to be a derg, then a doggo, a catto, a leopard, a lynx, and then again a cat is what I am now!

As it's already been covered by above friendly furs and scalies, it may shift as your heart goes, and it's never a bad thing!

Pure aesthetics can ring it, or spiritual connection can also make the job done! And it's even more stable when both are satisfied. I'm both, by the way!
Initially the aesthetics, later the connection, and then the lore setup stuff gradually came after over time.

As you've been suggested by above people, feel free to take a look at how others established their sonas!

After all, you'll need some research yourself if you're wiling to keep your personal traits personal(because then, people can't give you precise guides to ultimate). But hey it's always your call there!

Take your time looking back on yourself, do research for those species you see fit; or simply pick/make any you feel like straight away and leave else to your heart and time! Either way, what's important is that your sona is to your content!

Good luck on your sona build, herman568!

Want to write stories with images
I never choose a sona, I made a story and she was a main character, and then she started to appear in different stories and sometimes in different times and via different bodies with similar characters, maybe slightly different sometimes.

You could always choose to not have one. I know I don't. I cannot relate to any of my characters on a level where I feel like they represent me online.

Forcing a "Sona" to fit you is like trying to put a sock on a cactus...
It isn't as simple as sliding it on.

Because my internet alias for the longest time was "InfernDragon" because of World of warcraft character limitations.
I tried drawing a fire dragon in general to fit my design.
For me I've went through thousands of itterations of my character design.

Being happy one minute with a basic dragon head with 2 horns.
Then adding more elements to it each time.
Using a character editor in a few games to brainstorm ideas and so on.

Games/programs that could help you design a character:
  1. Hero forge (most furries tend to use this to create some basic character when they are learning to design an anthro)
  2. Elderscrolls Online (If you like Cat or Lizardmen)
  3. Chimeraland (A free to play game that you can download on your phone. Has a bunch of different races. Foxes/Bears/Dragons/Tigers etc)
  4. World of Warcraft (Subscription based game. Has Cows, Dragons, Wolf people and so on)
  5. Final Fantasy 14 Online (Hrothgars... Buff Sexy Tigers)
  6. Guild Wars 2 (Charrs which are basically Behemoths)
The only reason i am recommending you games is if you feel comfortable with the character design take it as your sona.
