Turning family into furries D:

My parents ordered me a collar (over the internet) as a graduation present. I kid you not. ^^

(It hasn't arrived yet, tho'.)

People who try to convert or change people into a certain way of thinking, or 'turn' people into things infuriate me beyond believe.

This thread is about this happening by accident.
In that case, it's more about people around you discovering the fandom through you, not you trying to make them do this or that.
Chill.

I had a strange moment today when I flipped through my brother's PSP and found TransFur pictures. My brother's the kind of guy you'd expect to be completely uninterested in furry stuff, so I said something like "Dude, who the hell put furry pictures on your memory stick?"

He got all flustered and I instantly felt like a jackass.

awwwww, what a cute moment :3

I suspect things are alright now, though, right?

So I'm slowly turning my younger cousins into furries. I'm not really trying to...I just happen to be on FA, and they ask me to print pics for them. They think the art is cool. I haven't told them anything about the minority of the fandom, and I don't plan to. They are 8 and 12 respectively, but pretty mature for their age.

Anyways, they often see me wearing my tail and collar. They think it's "silly", which I guess is better than thinking it's totally rad. >.>

Has anyone ever converted family members to the dark side (without trying)? :V
Funny my little cousin (12 yrs) is drawing alot of furry art, not in a human way tho but since shes n deviantart then Im sure shes gonna pick up on it >.>

Hasnt drawn yiff yet tho :p

My 64 year old father said he wants to attend a fur con.

He was joking, of course. But he knows what furry's all about. It's just one more strange thing I've dabbled in, and very likely won't be the last. My family just shrugs it off. I'm the odd duck, and proud to be so.

If I were to actually convert someone, it'd likely be my uncle (who's in his mid-50s) and my grandmother who, needless to say, is old in the extreme but she's the one who really encouraged me to be an odd duck if that's what I liked. She may be pushing 90, but she's very, very cool. Not many octogenarians play D&D, but she does. I wish my grandfather (her husband) was still alive. He'd become a furry just to break the minds of the rest of my extended family.

Jeez, can you imaging going to a convention with all your parents, cousins and such as some sort of family outing????
I'd die before that'd ever happen.

Oh Gawd! compared to our normal family outings I can only imagine the horror of such a thing.

That is awesome.

Agreed; however, if you introduce someone to a concept and they explore it on their own, that's perfectly okay. I think that's more what this thread is about.

I'd laugh if the porn did the opposite. <(^O^)>

Being a graduation present, that means you've got to take extra care of it. :3

Now get your parents to wear collars. <(n.n)>

I made my cousin furry. He's the same age as me. And only mildly interested. Was on FA, he asked what it was, and took five minutes to explain it to him.

Hmmmm.......
A collar. *cough* Indeed.

If I were to get any of these props I would have had made them myself. Actually, I DO enjoy making the odd mask once and again. I have a couple actually lined up.

As to the topic at hand. My family havent a notion of what furriness is. And as for me, Id prefer to bend the idea to as what a furry is to my own opinion. (Furries in my opinion are cultured and intelligent beings that can see into different spectrums of thought and persuasion) And if being called a furry is what youd enjoy calling me, then so be it.

Bah, where in the world do I Order myself a Collah? Let alone have Parents Ironic enough to do so?

Kitsune Dzelda

Hmmmm.......
>.> Why would you want to buy a collar? They only seem to state (this is my opinion of course) that you are owned by someone, like somebodys slave or whatnot. Ear hats and Tails may be okay, but why collars?

And all this silly talk about tails and ear hats makes me want to get one too.

It's a symbolic sign of the Fandom for some. And almost-instantly recognisable as a Furry to others. (Unless their a Retro-Goth >.=.>)

Kitsune Dzelda

Hmmmm.......
Oh, well that must have been my mistake then. Because Ive met a couple goths and I suppose that Ive been sort of passively buffeted by that. What kind of collar do you speak of? Hopefully not the dread black stuff that they wear with those silly silver spikes.

As for me, Id never enjoy getting a collar.

Because they're a unique and fashionable accessory? It's not a slave thing for most people who wear them. Personally, I got one only because I thought they were cute.

I get the premonition that that a furries collar imagry differs quite expansively from ym own vivid imagery. Could you describe what it looks like?

Kitsune Dzelda

Hmmmm.......
Odd. Im sure Id do just as well without one then.

Back on topic of course, none of my parents would really enjoy wearing tails or ear hats, much too old i suppose. Knowing my mothers defensiveness, shed attack me if I introduced my little brother to it too.

I don't understand why anyone would wish to turn any member of their family into a furry given the openly sexual nature of the fandom. Do you really want blood relatives getting that much insight into your sexuality, personally I'd feel really weird about it.

Family is a lost cause for me, as in they don't support any aspect of furryness, clean or dirty (which is a little odd, because they're totally cool with me being gay).

I've not let any of my friends know that I'm a furry yet, but there's one who I'm curious about. He's really open and interested in different ideas and subcultures. I couldn't ever see him being a furry, but I could see him being intrigued. Perhaps even a "Furry Ally" of sorts. =P Guess we'll have to see how it goes.

Kitsune Dzelda

Hmmmm.......
Hm? Im sorry, Im a tad naive when it comes to such things, Ill suppose you meant furriness in the clean sort of way. After all, the purest form of furriness in my opinion is when you use it to become wiser instead of using it for your own selfish gains.

I kinda meant to use the word to mean the active self-identification as a furry or outward expression of being a furry. Defining one's self and/or being socially recognized as a furry, more or less. (And yeah, the less clean aspect of the fandom would be set aside in that definition, because they're acts that can be done whether one is or isn't a furry.) More or less, my parents think it's "very wierd" to be a fur in public, and "who would ever want to do that?"

I do like your definition of it, though! I've never really thought about it that way, before.

I personally treat most collars with disdain, as I really just dont like them. Experiences with noosing I suppose.
