Uh, so tell me, furry people...

Not every furry is into this XXX stuff on FA. Personally, I'm not into this sex stuff, and only look at nude portraits for my kind of "porn". I find most of the yiff rather disgusting.

The Furry fandom is heavily into the sexual side.

However, ever fandom has people that look at porn. The only reason the amount of Furry-porn seems so large is that many Furries - for at least one stage of their life - tend to look mainly at only Furry Porn. And because of that, they need to have a representation in each fetish that a Furry might hold.

For a comparison to another fandom, imagine if Haloites only masturbated to Halo related porn for the most part. You'd wind up seeing a metric fuckton of pornographic images from the Halo community so as to have one interested in any fetish be happy. You'd have humans transforming into, er, something, Flood tentacles raping Marines and Covenant, BE of Covenant, Giant Flood with sexual organs, etc.

Tl;dr: Furry fandom has a good deal of sex in it, but mainly because of lack of enthusiasm to look at other porn.

Also, the Furry Fandom is full of disturbing fetishes, but again there are some similarly bad ones elsewhere (Spankwire, etc). Furries only have the difference in that they accept these people with open arms until they are a threat to Public Relations (In which case they never were a Furry / are a minority). Basically, the problem with the Furry Communities odd fetishes is they don't put enough effort into hiding them (sometimes going so far as to be counter-productive and shove them in people's faces).

I mean like a different identifying group :1
Like, the porn/fetish people can be "Furries", and we can be "Anthro-ies"...
Yeah....

Ah, I understand. Unfortunately, that's just a pipe dream. Very few communities/fandoms deny sexuality. (I can't even think of one counting adults as members that does.)

Of course, except in exclusively-adult communities, there exist members for whom sexuality plays either a very minor role or no role at all in the enjoyment of the fandom. However, for as long as sexuality remains a part of the human condition, sexuality, in all its forms natural and perverted, will play a part in fandoms.

The furry fandom is of course no exception, and I've read arguments both ways about how driven by sexuality the furry fandom is or isn't or how prominent it is or isn't.

What's beyond denial is the perception that sexuality drives the furry fandom (similar to the perception that sexuality, in hentai/yaoi/yuri forms, drives the anime/manga fandoms), regardless of how true or false that perception is, and that's most unfortunate.

Hey, Assbutt
Honestly, I don't think its helped by the fact that your base anthro/furry character is naked to start with. As humanoid animals, they'd normally be naked in their natural state (if that makes sense). Look at Warner Brothers stuff for starters.

Suddenly, you have a naked anthro character and think "mmm, nudity..." and it sort of spirals from there.

You wouldn't have this whole rampant sexuality issue if we all looked at pictures of handbags. Maybe. Though theres bound to be someone who will stick tits and a vagina on their handbag. There always is.

I feel so out of place here. But I need to ask. Seems like the best place.

Where I normally hang out, furries are tolerated at best, reviled at worst. The overwhelming perception is that furries are all a bunch of socially awkward yiffing perverts obsessed with sex.

But inevitably some actual furries or furry supporters post and say “No it’s not like that, most of us are not into the sex stuff! CSI made us all look bad” and so on.

So I think… Okay, I’ll give them the benefit of doubt. I mean, the freakiest parts of a fandom are always going to be what stands out, right? And the media is always going to exaggerate. I’m sure it’s really not as all that, right?

I heard about FA from some friends. Seemed to be a pretty large, active furry site. I’ll go have a look and see what it’s like.

The first thing I noticed, browsing the art, was that, among other ways, it’s organized by… fetish? By FETISH? Really? (Some bizarre fetishes too. And calls it 'Furry specialty' to boot) Seriously? By fetish?

The other thing that struck me was the ads- nearly all seemed to depict ‘sexy’ furries with ‘come hither’ expressions, and the one I did click on basically took me to a porn comic of some sort.

Okay, it’s not hurting anyone, but from my casual outsider’s perspective: furries really look sex and fetish obsessed, and draw some creepy things. It looks like a very prominent part of furry culture and not a tiny subset of creeps like I thought. That is the impression a site like FA gives.

Is FA the norm or are other sites like this too? I’m afraid to google for more because I know some twisted stuff exists.

So why the heck do furries still try to defend it and say ‘Furry isn’t about sex!’ when actual furry sites seem to show that, by and large, YES, yes it is? Are they in denial?

Question to the furries who genuinely AREN’T into the sex side of things (You do exist right?) - Does it bother you that the fandom really does come across as creepily sex crazed to the average outsider? Does it make you embarrassed at all? Do you wish it was different?

Yep. That's all.

Lol. I have said this many times. I do get aggravated that i have to be very quite about the fact i'm a furry in Real life. Seriously though, most are not like this, i'm not. FA is loved by the furry community mainly because it has the most freedom over sites like deviantArt, and SheezyArt. I don't hang around FA, just the Forums.

This sex stuff, is just part of the fandom. Admittedly, a lot of furries out there ARE into the sexual stuff. It helps out with a lot of anatomy when you think about it. I consider myself a furry, because i, draw Anthro artwork, love the animals, and i enjoy the thought of waking up as an Anthro character. I recommend you check out sites like dA, or some web-comics (VG Cats, 2s a Company, etc.). They come out much cleaner than on FA.

Don't judge just by here. I thought the same thing when i jumped over to the site, so i don't blame you.

Here's an example of clean furry artwork.

A good example.

I'm done. I hope i clarified some things right.
