URBEX - Urban Exploring

Urban Exploring Thread for Urban Explorers and those interested. Share some pictures and some stories - maybe even some good sites.

Just curious if anyone share this hobby or had questions about getting into it.

So I've been urban exploring for a few years. Casually strolling through abandoned manmade structures is excellent. Those monoliths left to rot are just calling out and asking to be walked through. To be explored. I personally prefer old factories and building built for purpose. Seeing the machines and remnants of the past being eaten away by nature reclaiming them. A wonderland of rubble and a monument to the past. True beauty.

Thus far I have done a few factories, an office complex, a massive train station, and an old psychiatric hospital. Always on the lookout for that next abandoned place.

There is nothing I would like to do more than legitimately go urban exploring. I think it's like the coolest thing ever! But, alas, I live in the middle of the suburbs. The most "urban" thing in this damn city is a sewage tunnel I found near the lake a few years ago, which doesn't really do anything for me since I'm afraid of the dark, tight spaces, and walking on any sort of slopes.

I did go to downtown Cleveland a few months ago for my birthday so I could take a few personal pictures. But unfortunately I didn't really get anything besides awkwardly angled photos of buildings. All the cool stuff is on the industrial side. I should have gone there.

I've hear Ohio has some great secrets to explore. I'd recommend checking out the Cincinnati Subway. Decently easy to get in and an easy to walk - It cut above ground in places all over the city. One I haven't tried but really REAALLYY want to is the Knox County Poorhouse in Bangs Ohio. If your interested there are a few Ohio based URBEX clubs - or just convince a few friends to go with you.

But for me the last place I visited was the Buffalo Central Terminal. Massive and beautiful.

Try visiting UER to find places near you.

Ohio Urbex fanatic here confirming there is some good stuff here. My favorite is the Cincinnati Subway. There is an old fallout shelter down there with a bunch of rusted out metal cots and barrels of drinking water left behind. Miami Military Academy is pretty cool as well but the floors are beyond sketchy. My only complaint about my area is the lack of abandoned psyche hospitals, which are easily my favorite buildings to explore (I've done the Tuberculosis ward at Athens State Hospital but I couldn't find a way to sneak into the main Kirkbride). This thread reminds me, it has been way too long since I've gone exploring.

Also, interestingly enough, UER is run by a furry, and I suspect that at least a few of the members are as well.

Didn't know but not surprised. It definitely is a great resource.

That profile pic looks like it might be from an exploration. - NICE. Have any more to share?
